Sony didn't announce firm PS4 release details at their New York presser, beyond the tantalising "holiday 2013." Apparently "at least" one region will get their hands on Sony's new console before Christmas, but as yet, even Sony doesn't appear to know which one.
"We will launch [the PS4] this year," SCEE Managing Director Fergal Gara told Digital Spy. "Exactly what regions, what timing, is being worked through."
"Which regions in 2013 - is it all of them, is it some of them? Is there some degree of phasing? We'll reveal that in more detail later but we can't yet."
When asked whether only one region would be targeted for a 2013 release, Gara replied: "at least. It will launch this year, but the precise details as I say for exact dates, exact regions, is it all or some of them? We don't know."
From past experience (including the Vita), us Europeans should probably be prepared to wait several agonising months as Japanese and American gamers make merry with their lovely new toys, our noses pushed up against the glass, shivering in the snow with our frostbitten teddy bears.
Or perhaps we'll see a global rollout. Stranger things have happened.
This is one of many things we still don't know about the PlayStation 4. Why not check out Brendan's anarchic take on things?
