Having wrapped work on God of War 3 last year, Sony Santa Monica is presumably hard at work on their next game. But with Kratos' story all but finished, it's unlikely we'll see a return to ancient Greece. And if recent job listings are anything to go by, the traditionally action-adventure oriented developer is looking to add experienced first and third-person shooter and open-world developers to its team.
With two separate adds up on Gamasutra, one for a Senior Combat Designer and the other for a Level Designer, the listings demand candidates have "experience with, developing or designing for a first and/or third-person shooter" or "experience in designing or contributing to development of an open-world game". It'd be easy to leap to assumptions and claim Santa Monica is working on an open-world shooter, but it's more likely the team is looking to add pseudo-shooter and open world features to their next title. Having staff well-versed in such features is better than asking their own developers - who've been working on hack and slash stuff for over ten years now.
We expect Sony might be announcing more on Santa Monica's next title at E3, but with Naughty Dog and Eat, Sleep, Play already providing the company with two big blockbusters this year - Uncharted 3 and Twisted Metal - don't expect them to divert too much attention away.
