Watch Dogs has been delayed into next year, Ubisoft confirmed yesterday, which will doubtlessly cause concern for gamers who opted for a PS4 pre-order bundle. However, Sony are on the case, and are currently working with both the publisher and retailers to provide alternative arrangements.
Amazon and GameStop will apparently still honour the pre-orders and ship the game when it releases, but are putting steps in place to let players choose a different pack-in. We've got all the details below.
We reached out to Sony for comment following the shock delay. "Obviously this is very recent announcement." a Sony representative told Dealspwn.com. "We will be working very closely both with Ubisoft and with our partners at retail to manage this situation." It's a boilerplate statement, but it's clear that Sony are keen to smooth over this roadblock as quickly as possible. By the looks of things, they'll make sure that customers will still receive Watch Dogs if they retain their bundle pre-order - but can opt for a different game instead.
Amazon wasted no time in confirming that they're sticking to the plan, via their Facebook page. "For those of you who pre-order the Watch Dogs PlayStation 4 bundle—don’t worry—you will still be getting your Playstation 4 (without Watch Dogs) based on your current delivery estimate. We are adjusting the orders now and will update you once we know more."
GameStop were a little more specific when talking to Polygon. “With the news that Ubisoft has delayed the release of the highly-anticipated title Watch Dogs until next year, GameStop is contacting customers who had reserved PlayStation 4 and Xbox One bundles featuring the game," a representative stated.
“Customers can elect to keep their current bundle orders and their consoles will ship as scheduled with the game shipping separately once it is available, or customers can choose another bundle to replace their current order. Customers should also note that there may be a difference in the price if selecting another bundle and that all reserved orders will be charged upon shipment.”
It's likely that most retailers will offer a similar replacement scheme, with any price differences reflected in the payment on dispatch. Have you been affected by the Watch Dogs delay?
