PSP Go Backlash Not As Much As Expected Say Sony

From Sony's PSP Go Backlash To Modern Warfare 2 Map Packs: News Roundup October 1st

Despite the retailer backlash directed at the PSP Go, UK product manager Claire Backhouse admits Sony was expecting worse.  “We were very aware of concerns when we went into it and I actually expected a lot more negative responses than we actually got,” Backhouse said.  “They were really quite fine with it. They see it as a way of getting people into the store because it's new interest, a new product. And they've had such strong sales as well of PSP-3000 almost off the back of it.

The main focus of the backlash came from the fact retailers won’t be able to sell games for the device, thanks to Sony’s switch to digital distribution on the PSP Go.  A few retailers boycotted the product, but apparently this hasn’t dented Sony's confidence.  Backhouse suggests the PSP-3000 can still provide a viable alternative to the PSP Go, pointing out “If you bring out a new product, people aspire to that but they might not buy it, they might buy the PSP 3000 instead.”  [GamesIndustry]

Dead Space 2 Ready for Production Soon

From Sony's PSP Go Backlash To Modern Warfare 2 Map Packs: News Roundup October 1st

Dead Space Extraction may not be the sequel fans were hoping for, so they’ll be glad to know Dead Space 2 looks set to enter production soon.  EA recently posted a job advertisement looking for a lead combat designer for the next Dead Space, claiming “the same core team is in place to create an even better follow up,” adding “the game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months.

Assuming the original Dead Space can provide the bulk of the groundwork, Dead Space 2 should be on track for a release next year.  [JoyStiq]

Resident Evil 5 Bonus Material Looks Possible On 360

From Sony's PSP Go Backlash To Modern Warfare 2 Map Packs: News Roundup October 1st

Following the announcement of Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition hitting the PS3 with motion control functionality and additional bonus content, it now seems the Xbox 360 is set to share the bonus material with Sony.  A news report on Japanese website Dengeki suggests the bonus material will likely appear in a “different format” on the 360, making a downloadable content release the most liable option.  The bonus material will most likely include the “Jill Episode” which Capcom have already revealed; along with whatever other unrevealed bonus material producer Jun Takeuchi has teased.  [IGN]

First Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack Planned For Spring

From Sony's PSP Go Backlash To Modern Warfare 2 Map Packs: News Roundup October 1st

Thanks to specially marked four packs of Monster Assault energy drink, it has been revealed the first map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will hit next spring.  The energy drink also claims they have “5,000 MW2 Map Pack codes” up for grabs with a “planned spring 2010 release.”  Activision hasn’t yet confirmed if this map one of the two they previously announced, but maybe the next batch of Monster Assault energy drink can confirm this.  [ShackNews]
