Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows £7.85 @ ShopTo [Xbox 360 Games]

Yet another excellent deal from ShopTo today. They're currently stocking Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows for the bargain price of £7.85, which will save you over twelve quid compared to the next cheapest offering from Games Basement. Many online stockists are completely sold out- but this is nevertheless the cheapest price we've ever seen for a new Xbox 360 copy.

Web of Shadows attempted to revitalise the open-world webslinging that the Spider-Man series is famed for, but didn't quite manage to match the critical acclaim of its peers. With New York in the sludgy grip of a full scale symbiote invasion, Spidey has to choose between battling the alien menace with his classic red costume or succumbing to the powerful evil charms of the black suit. That's right, the venom symbiote is now at your disposal, requiring you to make some binary moral choices along with tactical decisions.

The key formula and storyline is a lot of fun with some excellent fan service to sweeten the pot (thanks to plenty of familiar faces that you'll meet along the way), but the grindy repetitive nature of the side quests and awful third act bog down the gameplay into a torturous crawl. It's not a bad game by any means, but it made the Spider-Man experience feel so... mundane.

With the upcoming Shattered Dimensions just around the corner, it might be worth holding off on this one... but on the other hand, £7.85 could well be the right price for Spidey fans and achievement hunters to indulge in a little open world escapism.
