If you’re a fan of Spiderman 3 and enjoyed the scenes where Toby Maguire donned a black shirt, swept a fringe across his brow and became, apparently, ‘evil’, then Spiderman: Web of Shadows, where you decide what moral route Spidey opts for, is probably your cup of tea, and is now available from ShopTo for just £9.99! Just promise me you’ll be diagnosed for being clinically insane?
According to a price-comparison, the deal for Spiderman: Web of Shadows from ShopTo is the cheapest around, sparing you five-pounds! However, low prices often mean low quality. Spiderman: Web of Shadows earned a meagre 68/100 on MetaCritic, although Game Chronicles did award the game a score of 98. Be sure to investigate rumours of a madman assuming control of said site.
Web of Shadows imagines a New York quite literally gripped in a symbiot invasion. Fans may remember the symbiot is an extraterrestrial parasite capable of bonding to, and eventually overpowering, a host. Spiderman himself falls prey to the seductive black goo, and must decide between good or evil, represented by his red and black suits respectively.
The so-called ‘moral’ aspects of Spiderman: Web of Shadows are shallow and binary, failing to capture any of the temptation or guilt Peter Parker is enduring as he is forced between being noble yet vulnerable, or powerful and self-destructive. The combat is fairly enjoyable, if repetitive, and the general lack of polish condemns the game to the ranks of the mediocre.
The only redeemable moment in the entire game is a symbiot-infused Wolverine. ‘Nuff said. Thanks to neOprene from HotUkDeals!
