Square Enix Working On "Massive, Original Action RPG"

Powered By Unreal Engine 3

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is Square's big project at the moment, but behind the scenes work is afoot on what Japanese mag Famitsu describes as a "massive, original action RPG". Powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, no less. Kindly translated by the ever-dependable Andriasang, Famitsu's report reveals development is headed up by Dragon Quest 9 producer Ryutaro Ichimura, who scoured the globe for over two years conducting surveys on art and gameplay direction. He's backed up by a team of 35.

Famitsu expect a formal announcement this very week, with a console platform release in mind. However, Square is apparently looking into next generation platforms, and what with all this talk of the Wii U and maybe even the Next Xbox releasing in 2012, Square's "massive, original action RPG" might have to add a "next-generation" prefix, too. erm what about Kingdom Hearts 3, the best Action RPG imo. They said they were too busy to start it due to FF games that are in dev, but they've had time to start a new IP! pff!
