Powered By Unreal Engine 3
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is Square's big project at the moment, but behind the scenes work is afoot on what Japanese mag Famitsu describes as a "massive, original action RPG". Powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, no less. Kindly translated by the ever-dependable Andriasang, Famitsu's report reveals development is headed up by Dragon Quest 9 producer Ryutaro Ichimura, who scoured the globe for over two years conducting surveys on art and gameplay direction. He's backed up by a team of 35.
Famitsu expect a formal announcement this very week, with a console platform release in mind. However, Square is apparently looking into next generation platforms, and what with all this talk of the Wii U and maybe even the Next Xbox releasing in 2012, Square's "massive, original action RPG" might have to add a "next-generation" prefix, too.
