Some DLC Must Be Unlocked Via In-Game Challenges
Square is looking to do right by Final Fantasy fans with XIII-2, the followup to last year's much-anticipated but surprisingly mediocre JRPG. The pseudo-sequel features an all new combat system, expanded exploration and a wealth of new story content for FF fans to feast on, and Square has bold plans in store for post-release content, aiming to have one or two packs ready each and every month following its release later this year.
In a chat with Japanese mag Dengeki PlayStation - kindly translated by the ever-dependable Andriasang - XIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed Square plans to release up to two DLC packs each month after release. These packs will range from costume and weapon sets to far larger offerings. Some might even require you to vanquish a boss before being granted access to the download.
As for the price, Kitase assured fans Square will find a "good balance between price and the quality that customers will accept". He also revealed the additional costumes are being tailored for use in event scenes - aka cutscenes - instead of the default costume simply popping up when one is activated.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 releases this December in Japan, with a US and UK release following shortly in January and February 2012 respectively. [Andriasang]
