CEO Closes Studio For "Unspecified Personal Reasons"
We've sad news to report for STALKER 2 and GSC Game World fans today, as not only have the studio cancelled work on the followup to the Chernobyl-set open-world shooter, but they too have been shut down, after CEO Sergei Grigorovich pulled the plug on both team and title for "unspecified personal reasons". Reports emerged earlier today of STALKER 2's cancellation, followed swiftly by rumours of GSC's demise.
The STALKER team denied the news on Twitter, until GSC director Dmitri Bourkovski took to the social networking site himself to publicly confirm the closure of GSC Game World and subsequently STALKER 2. We've no official word on why this has happened, although considering the current economical climate and the stagnating FPS genre, it's not hard to imagine financial concerns were at play. We'll have more for you on this as and when it develops. [Eurogamer]
