Crowd Funding For Star Citizen Reaches Million Goal

Chris Roberts Ready To “Raise The Bar” For PC Games

After yesterday’s news that the Kickstarter campaign had hit its target of $500,000, the Twitter account for Roberts Space Industries has just confirmed that in the space of 24 hours the crowd funding effort for Star Citizen has raised a further $400,000 to the cause. This means that Chris Roberts’ next project has reached its intended target of $2,000,000 with weeks to spare, and the folks at Cloud Imperium are now looking at stretch goals for the ambitious Space Sim game.

In a press release that was issued last night (when they were short of the $2 million mark by $20,000) Chris Roberts said that the support from the community had been “overwhelming” but was “having a blast” with his return to development, hoping to “raise the bar” for PC games back to the top tier.

“We had a few hiccups on our own site in the first week of operation, which led us to open up the Kickstarter page. Kickstarter provided better scalability for us and additional options for our fans. In the end, this is all about breathing new life into the PC games business. PC gamers have been left on the sidelines for the last few years. I want to utilize all the new technology that a PC can provide and bring space sims back into the modern area with a bang.”

There is still plenty of time to pledge over on Kickstarter or the RSI website if you want to show your support, or just get some of those sweet, sweet perks. For those that have already thrown money at their screens, all that is now left to do is wait for the alpha and beta tests before the intended 2014 release. Until then, here's that glorious trailer yet again.

Well it does help to have some form of royalty investing in Space Sims...

Also, edited. Cheers for the heads-up!
