After some nervy waiting, Nintendo have announced Star Fox Zero for Wii U, which is slated to release in time for Christmas. Packing old-school gameplay with new graphics and features, it looks like a cracking return to form. Details and trailer below.
UPDATE: It has now emerged that Platinum Games are behind Star Fox Zero. Hideki Kamiya has been asking for a chance to develop a Star Fox title for years, so it seems he finally got his wish!
Star Fox Zero offers the same blend of rail shooting and all-range mode dogfighting with some interesting new twists. The GamePad now acts as a cockpit view for closeup engagements, while its gyroscope provides precision aiming. Classic manouevres and some new moves are all in easy reach, while the Arwing can now transform into a Walker for land-based battles. The Landmaster and Gyro Wing return for extra flavour, while Nintendo hints that many levels can be completed in a variety of vehicles for a different gameplay experience.
Expect exhilarating combat and enormous bosses as standard. Fingers crossed it lives up to our high expectations!
