Well it took a little while for it to make the jump over to the PS3, but Sony fans can now rejoice in tri-Ace's RPG too. Zavvi are selling the game for £17.95, which is £7 less than the nearest competitor over at Amazon/Gamestation.
A prequel to the first Star Ocean, The Last Hope sees you hop into the shoes of Edge Maverick who, with the help of his crew, must journey throughout the galaxy looking for a new homeland for mankind. World War III has ripped through the Earth killing off both most of the human race and rendering the planet uninhabitable and it's up to Maverick and Co. to find a spot for relocation.
The PS3 exclusive International comes with a few extra odds and sods such as both Japanese and English language voice tracks and multiple new soundtrack elements, but really it's the core gameplay which makes this title stand out from all of the other relatively mediocre pre-FFXIII next-gen Square titles. The story is solid and well paced, although the characters do look and act like poorly programmed dolls at times, and the combat is rich and engaging, with a large amount of tactical depth.
A solid game at a great price this is a good deal, although if you get ticked off by JRPGs you should probably start running in the opposite direction right about now.
