
Veteran shooter developer Starbreeze has announced that their next game will be a free to play FPS entitled Cold Mercury. Details are thin on the ground, but it's likely that the smaller scale of the project is due to recent downsizing after the release of EA's controversial Syndicate reboot last month. However, Starbreeze are adamant that they "will not leave the AAA segment," and are in talks with several major publishers. [GI.biz]
Starbreeze and EA recently released the controversial Syndicate reboot, which received somewhat mixed reviews especially in comparison to The Chronicles Of Riddick: Butcher Bay and The Darkness. Cold Mercury will likely face stiff competition from other F2P shooters such as Epic Games' recently-announced Mercenary Ops.
