Starcraft 2 is now less than two months away- and many gamers have still been holding out for a decent preorder deal. Currently, the best offering comes courtesy of Game Connection, who are retailing at £27.99. This may only be a £2 saving (compared to Simply Games, the nearest competitor)- but every little helps, right?
Zerg Rush! These two words still strike fear into the hearts of seasoned RTS veterans, and now the sequel to one of the most beloved strategy titles of all time is nearly upon us. The Starcraft 2 beta was massively successful (and highly coveted)- and from what we can tell, Blizzard have been working tirelessly to ensure that its fans won't be disappointed.
Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty heralds the triumphant return of the Terrans, Protoss and Zerg- each of whom have their own unique feel, units and play style. Traditionalists will enjoy the Terran's solid mix of power and adaptability, whereas advanced players will doubtlessly favour the powerful, nuanced yet extremely expensive Protoss. Oh, and you'd be mad to ignore the Zerg, who can quickly overwhelm even the beefiest base defenses and armies with horrifying hordes of melee death-dealers.
Starcraft 2 promises to deliver the "ultimate competitive multiplayer RTS"... and the beta suggests that they're on course to do just that. Wings of Liberty also contains the singleplayer Terran campaign, though you'll have to wait for subsequent expansions to play through the Protoss and Zerg storylines.
There's still plenty of time for the preorder prices to drop... but considering the fantastically-successful beta, don't expect anything too drastic too soon.
