Steam Summer Sale: Star Wars Empire At War, Half-Life 2, and Day of Defeat: Source [PC Games]

There's not a bad selection of games in today's price cuts on Steam, and I've brought you a couple of my favourites, which include a cracking RTS, an outstanding FPS, and a fun WWII multiplayer team shooter. Also, do remember that these deals'll expire at around 6pm this evening.

Star Wars: Empire At War: Gold Pack £3.74

Being a big Star Wars and RTS fan, I was extremely excited when I first discovered Empire At War, and the game was certainly everything I'd hoped for. This instalment of the extended universe takes place between episodes III and IV, and was around long before The Force Unleashed sauntered onto the scene to steal the limelight of this period in Star Wars history, and nicely covers the events leading up to the start of the Empire's downfall at the hands of a merry bunch of charismatic rapscallions. Of course the way the story unfolds depends on whether or not you're playing as The Galactic Empire or The Rebel Alliance, and both campaigns are great fun to play through. You'll spend your time either waging war in space or on the ground, and it's highly amusing to be able to control a tiny version of Darth Vader as he stands alongside a gigantic ATAT. The Gold Pack also includes the Forces of Corruption expansion pack, so this is a pretty good deal that'll save you at least £5.

Half Life 2 £2.37

Last week they slashed the price of the original, now it's the turn of the superb sequel to receive an irresistible price tag! Once again Gordon Freeman is battling against alien assailants, using every weapon he can get his hands on to send them to their graves. I don't think anything I can say will really do the game any justice, save for the fact that it's won multiple awards and its reputation is about as shiningly positive as you can get, which it definitely deserves. For such an iconic game £2.37 isn't much to ask for and if you've not played it yet, which is a little bit of a crime, then you should take advantage of the low price whilst you can. Another incentive to pick up the game now, not that you really need one, is that you'll be making a saving of almost £6 on the next best price.

Day of Defeat: Source £1.49

I'll be honest with you, I used to be a big fan of WWII era games, unfortunately I can't help but feel that the genre has been worn down and strung out about as far as it can possibly go. Having said that, this is so cheap that I couldn't resist including it. The game offers you a wonderful online multiplayer experience, as part of either the US Army or the German Wehrmacht, and you'll have a selection of classes at your disposal depending on what style of gaming takes your fancy. There are two modes on offer; territorial, where you have to take control of certain areas of the map in order to win; and detonation, where surprisingly your objective is to destroy hostile targets, which range from AA guns to tanks. You'll get the most out of the experience by forming a team with a group of friends, and at £1.49 you'll save up to £8, and you can't get much fairer than that.
