Stop the presses: Namco Bandai are changing their name

In shock news that is bound to cause a stir throughout the gaming community, Namco Bandai are rebranding around the world to face the new console generation with a slick new identity.

Prepare yourself. Are you ready? From April 1st, Namco Bandai will become... Bandai Namco.

So, erm, yeah. Sorry. The veteran publisher has actually been known as Bandai Namco in Japan since the two companies merged, so they've decided to solidify their branding worldwide.

According to Gematsu, company executives believe that the transition will "elevate the appeal and value of the Bandai Namco brand overseas," which seems a bit optimistic to us. If anything it will just confuse punters for a while; it's Jif vs Cif all over again. Still, the change is happening on April 1st, so I suppose this could just be the groundwork for an elaborate boardroom prank.

This will take a little getting used to, so be ready to poke us with a sharpened comment if we get it wrong from April onwards.

A courageous and brilliant move. Great to see a large company like this allowing their marketing team to really show their quality.

Wow, they're earning their pay this month!

In truth, if you hadn't told me, I'd probably never have noticed.

Basically, someone in marketing is f***ing someone who runs a corporate stationary company and they just earned themselves a new car.

So if that bit about being always call Bandai Namco in Japan is true then I think the real story is why on earth did they originally swap it around for the overseas market?!?

Damnit, I need to get my Namco Bandai tattoo corrected now :(

Namco are better known outside of Japan. They wanted the Western name to be instantly associated with the company who made Tekken, rather than the company who made the Wonder Swan

I think of Super Go-Bots when I think of Bandai, I still have my Porsche 930 Turbo (Baron Von Joy) kicking around somewhere.

I always say "Namco Bandai" but I've always thought of it as actually being "Bandai Namco". I guess I just thought of it in the same way as Japanese/Chinese names and how we always tend to swap their first and last names around over here.

Or maybe I've just seen it on Japanese games before, I dunno.
