If you’re dead serious about your beat-em-ups, HMV currently have a selection of PS3 wireless Street Fighter IV fightpads going for £14.99 each. This is a great deal considering most other retailers are charging somewhere in the region of £30 - or more - for these particular controllers.
At the moment, HMV are offering an ‘assorted’ fightpad (although what exactly they mean by ‘assorted’ seems slightly ambiguous) which, judging from its picture, has a Ryu motif. They also have another two which depict either Guile or Sagat. Fans of M.Bison, Cammy, Akuma, Zangief or Viper are looking at £33.99 to get their hands on these particular versions however.
Weighing about the same as a PS3 duel shock, these wireless pads are perfect for pulling off those complex SF combos. The floating D-Pad is nice and mushy, while the buttons are big, flat and effortless to press. The grip is comfortable, and the controller has a switch to toggle the D-pad between left/right analogue stick so you can use it for other games. The pad requires 2 AA batteries, and although these run down very slowly (one customer stated that after four weeks he still hadn’t needed to change them) it might be an idea to get yourself 4 rechargeable AAs for uninterrupted play.
The reviews for this product have been overwhelmingly positive, but some customers have complained about faulty models. One person stated that after two weeks some of the buttons became unresponsive, and another described problems with the diagonal control on the D-pad. However these issues appear to be few and far between, and so long as you don’t hurl your controller at the wall or stamp on it in a sudden bout of extreme game rage, you're unlikely to experience any problems.
