Visceral's Vision Of Hell Is "Mainstream" And "Standard"
As many of you know, Goichi "Suda51" Suda is currently working on Shadows Of The Damned with Shinji Mikami... which is one of the most bizarre and brilliant action games I've played in a long time. You can check out my hands-on preview for more details. Suda naturally believes that his reimagining of Hell is different from anything that has come before - and has called out Visceral Games' Dante's Inferno as being generic, mainstream and cliched.
I think the Hell that [Visceral] have is really mainstream and standard. But I think our vision of Hell is really different from theirs. It would be very interesting as you play to see the difference.
Our version of Hell is really funny, and it’s actually closer to you than what you envision as Hell.
It’s scary, but at the same time it’s really fun to play, so I definitely want the player to see the difference between ours and [Visceral's]. - Goichi Suda to VG247
I'll let you guys pass judgement on Dante's Inferno, and we'd love to get your take on Visceral's hack & slash title. All we do know is that, as far as we make out, Shadows Of The Damned is indeed set to be "funny", "scary" and flat-out bonkers. We'll keep you posted.
