If you like your hyped games to be a safe bet then preordering probably feels like a shot in the dark. But if there's one series you can count on to continually provide top quality, innovative gameplay then it is, of course, good old Mario. The countdown grows short and we've now less than a month until New Super Mario Bros. Wii hits our shops and so I have been investigating the preorder prices. Currently Gameplay are leading the way with a very reasonable £29.99, nearly three pounds less than the next best price; £32.86 from Shop To
This sequel to the DS game New Super Mario Bros. is a side scrolling platformer and the first game in the main Mario series to support simultaneous multiplayer action, with up to 4 players able to be involved at once. Player One controls Mario, Player Two gets Luigi and Three and Four will play as a pair of Toads. Players are able to pick up and carry each other and then chuck their burden around if they get bored.
It will also be the first title to use the new "Super Guide" feature which allows players to pause the action and let the game itself finish the level for them if they have failed to get passed said level eight times in single player mode. To my mind that sort of defeats the point of playing a game in the first place but I suppose it could come in handy..?
The previews were, shockingly, greeted very warmly and while the game has made little progress in terms of graphics, that really isn't the point. So, once again, Mario offers up another must have game for any Nintendo fan or Wii owner.
