Suppliers Rally To 'Keep HMV On The High Street'

With luck, high street mainstay (and massive employer) HMV might be saved from extinction thanks to a "surge of interest" from potential buyers and a rallying cry from their longtime suppliers.

UPDATEDivideByZero also informs us that HMV will start accepting gift vouchers from tomorrow. Thanks!

The Sunday Times [via MSN Money] reports that the likes of Warner Bros Music, Sony Music and Universal Music "are planning to offer HMV suitors generous credit terms and cut the price of CDs and DVDs to help keep HMV's presence on the high street.” In response, 'about fifty' potential suitors have expressed their interest, and chief exec Trevor Moore is "convinced" that the chain can be saved.

Hilco is still the most likely buyer, having assumed control of HMV Canada last year, but GAME have confirmed their interest in 45 store locations. We'll bring you more as we hear it.

HMV went into administration last week, putting more than 4150 jobs and hundreds of stores at risk.
