Syndicate Successor Satellite Reign Drops Tasty Target Footage

Ambitious Simulation/RTS Still Not Kickstarted

Satellite Reign, an open-world RTS designed by several veteran developers behind Syndicate and its sequel, is still well short of its $350,000 Kickstarter funding total with six days to go. To this end, Five Lives Studios have released an in-engine visualisation of what the game will hopefully look like. Target footage, not gameplay footage - but it sure is purdy.

Six days to go, $58,000 to raise. Are you in?

I was debating about backing this, but I saw things on the forums, and listened to some of the talks by the devs, and it actually put me off.

I wanted an updated, spiffy Syndicate game, with similar mechanics to the original, with modern graphics, and a level editor (which I think is key for most games' longevity nowadays). However, the more I heard, the more I was pushed away, with talk of the inability to tank, the requirements for certain aspects, such as hacking, and the possibility for dynamic mission changes. Certain aspects of a mission changing makes sense, such as there being slightly more enemy agents, or cameras in different locations, but the possibility for the entire mission to become FUBAR, and failure as a result is not so cool. I think if they stripped it back a little, I'd be much more interested. Until then, I'm firing up my DOSBox.

I'd only been vaguely aware of this up till now, but that video convinced me to back them.

I think they've got a tough stretch ahead of them to get it Kickstarted, I'd be surprised if they made it at this rate. Having said that, they need on average $11.6k a day, and with 6 days left and just over $50k to go, they could do it (if you're working on averages).

Well, that's why I added the caveat for the average amounts required ;)

I wonder if Dealspwn's pumping of it had anything to do with beating the goal :)
