Atari won't let TxK come to PS4 & PC, everybody point and hiss

TxK is one of the best shooters of recent years. Jeff Minter is a legend in British gaming, and absolutely delivered the goods in what we described as "a thing of exquisite beauty" in our 9/10 Vita review.

So we were delighted to hear that Minter was working on PS4, PC, Android and Oculus versions... but no longer, as the shambling mess that once was Atari have decided to stop destroying classic gaming franchises for long enough to block the game on legal grounds.

Minter is "beyond disgusted," and frankly so are we.

Fahrenheit now only £1.05 on PC at GOG

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy | Good Old Games | £1.05

David Cage is currently best known for Heavy Rain and Beyond, but Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy to its American mates) arguably served as a foundation for hirs cinema-meets-gameplay formula. It's got a (mostly) great storyline, some superb characters and a deep chilling mystery that rather goes off the rails towards the end. For £1.05, though, this uncensored version definitely deserves your attention.

Admittedly, this isn't the cheapest we've seen this bundle fall to, but it's still filled to the brim with RPG goodness for a very good price. This collection contains both Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2, along with all of the respective expansion packs.

Atari Games 65% Off At GOG.com

All eyes may be on Steam, but GOG.com are running a retro sale of their own by putting a slew of excellent Atari-published games on sale. It mirrors similar deals held last year and back in March, which lets me copy/paste the banner URL. And that last sentence. Convenient, no?

Highlights include Masters Of Orion 1&2, I-War, I-War 2, Alone In The Dark 1-3, Total Annihilation and Blood 2 for a paltry $2.09 (£1.38) each, while Krush Kill & Destroy has enterted the fray. Check out the full list of deals here.

Legendary ET Landfill To Be Unearthed After 30 Years Of Shame

Back in 1982, a single videogame managed to all but collapse the videogames market. E.T., one of the worst games ever made, arrived on the Atari 2600 after receiving horrendous reviews, massively knocking the already-fragile company and sending it into freefall. The legend goes that Atari dumped the enormous volume of unsold cartridges and hardware into a secret landfill site so that their shame could be forever buried under tonnes of New Mexico soil.

30 years later, however, a film company has received permission to locate and excavate the monument to all their sins.

Special Forces: Team X Review | What's Special About It, Exactly?

Platforms: PC | XBLA (reviewed)

Developer: Zombie Studios

Publisher: Microprose

Special Forces: Team X has a terrific name.

This third-person multiplayer shooter sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon, and for the record, it looks a bit like one too. Cel-shading can make a great game timeless or a mediocre one look superficially impressive, and the eyecatching art style really helps Zombie Studios' latest effort to stand out from the pack. It's a military multiplayer-only shooter, after all. Every little helps in the differentiation department. When presented with dozens of games that  revolve around big burly men shooting each other with assault rifles in run-down industrial locales, hell, I'll pick the rotoscoped one any day. Especially since the developers behind Blacklight Retribution promised to place rampant squads of attack dogs at our disposal.

Looks will only get you so far, however, and Special Forces: Team X might need to work on its inner beauty in order to become a long-term success.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum | £3.25 | Gamefly | PC

This offer from Gamefly is worth a look if you fancy building the world’s most insane rollercoaster and not actually endangering any lives, all for under a fiver. The current deal means a surprising £16 saving is to be had over the next best offer.

Along with the massive saving, there happens to be quite a large amount of content with this Platinum edition, which not only provides the main game but bundles both of the expansion, consisting of the safari based Wild! and the water based Soaked! packs. For the price of admission with this one there’s a lot of content to be had, as well as being one of the better simulation games out there. Thanks to  Alexjb @ HUKD!

Report: Atari US Files For Bankruptcy To Start Afresh

A Split, Not The End

According to a new report from the L.A. Times, Atari's American division has filed for bankruptcy in order to split off from its debt-wracked French parent company. The L.A. Times contends that Atari's American operation will aim to repurpose as a new company focusing on (you guessed it) digital and mobile platforms, escaping the disastrous share prices and financial millstone of Atari S.A.

The love we bore Atari has been waning throughout this generation, with the once-great company reduced to dredging up old IP in the most shameless ways imaginable. We hope that this move will result in a much leaner and more dynamic company.

The Undergarden | £3.77 | Impulse | PC

Impulse Driven has put a fair few Atari games on sale today, but due to the incredibly inconsistent quality of their recent releases, The Undergarden ends up as one of the most noteworthy. Its rather aimless yet soothing puzzly gameplay worked well on consoles, and it's well worth looking at as a way to kick back after a long day. Plus, it's much cheaper here than on the console marketplaces.

Ad-Free In Internet Explorer

Several classic Atari games will be given a new free-to-play lease of life thanks to Atari Arcade, the venerable publisher announced today. This new service will allow players to compete for high scores in new versions of games like Asteroids, Pong, Lunar Lander, Missile Command and Centipede via their web browser. Due to a partnership with Microsoft, Atari Arcade will run without adverts in Internet Explorer - both on PCs, Surface tablets and Windows Phones. Otherwise, enjoy some product placement.

So... anyone excited? To be honest, we'll probably be playing Hitman: Blood Money...

Test Drive Unlimited 2 | £2.84 | ShopTo | PC

We’re still having real trouble making up our mind about Test Drive Unlimited 2, though we can't quibble about ShopTo's price. On the one hand, we love its luscious environments, cars and massive amounts of content… but completely turned off by the weak handling and terrible storyline. Seriously, if developers really want to give us context for the driving, at least attempt to make it half decent. Felix reckons that it suffers from an identity crisis in his 7/10 review.
