Black Ops II: Uprising DLC Review | Whole Liotta Fun

Platforms: Xbox 360 (reviewed, 1200 MSP) | PC | PS3

Developer: Treyarch

Publisher: Activision

It's increasingly fashionable to rail against Call Of Duty and everything it stands for, but despite a few predictable grievances, millions of players still flock to its enjoyable blend of skill, uncomplicated fun and rampant spectacle to unwind after a long day. It's interesting, then, that the latest map pack for Black Ops II favours the latter. In an effort to give players something interesting to look at beyond wartorn streets, Uprising goes heavy on gimmicks, bells and whistles, offering four maps and a new Zombie level that all feature a unique 'thing.' Whether you're dodging through lava, stomping across a miniature city that makes you feel like a giant or punting zombies into a demonic maw as Ray Liotta, there's no denying that Uprising is gun fun on a bun.

If you've fallen out of love with Call Of Duty, don't regularly play Black Ops II or spend your days whining about there being "too many shooters" without making the effort to enjoy the cornucopia of different genres out there (you know who you are), there's nothing for you here. But if you're still enjoying Treyarch's blockbuster, Uprising is going to be a welcome breath of fresh air over the coming months.

UK Games Charts | 2nd February 2013

In what can only be described as a massive coup for JRPGs, PS3 exclusive Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch has soared straight into the number one sales spot. This sublime collaboration between Level-5 and Studio Ghibli has haunted our dreams for months now, and the finished product is nothing short of spectacular. Check out our Ni No Kuni video review and in-depth written review for more details.

Elsewhere in the charts, Hitman's HD trilogy joins the same old faces jockeying for position, and the top forty is still bereft of Wii U exclusives. We've got the full UK top ten after the break.

UK Games Charts | 12th January 2013

No change, please. A cursory glance at this week's UK games charts might make you wonder whether we've just copy/pasted the last one, with only a couple of titles shifting position in the bottom half of the top ten.

Anarchy Reigns, the only new major release, has charted at a fairly respectable 16th place. In what's becoming a worrying trend, you won't find even a single Wii U exclusive bothering the top forty - so here's hoping that the Q1 release schedule will shake things up a bit for Nintendo.

UK Games Charts | 24th November 2012

Black Ops II has managed to fend off a stealthy attack from Agent 47, securing the top spot for a second week while Hitman: Absolution settles for second. Carl is currently working on our full review.

LEGO: The Lord Of The Rings has entered the charts at a strong sixth place. It's certainly not the biggest debut for a LEGO game, but considering the competition, it's pretty good going. Matt presented it with an Editor's Choice award in our 8/10 review.

Otherwise, the same old faces continue to jostle for position; joined by Dishonored that's managed to bounce back from fourteenth.

Black Ops II Xbox 360 & PC Patches Now Live [UPDATE]

Dragonfires & Escort Drones Get Fixed

A new title update for Call Of Duty: Black Ops II's Xbox 360 version went live yesterday, and Treyarch have finally gotten around to releasing the patch notes. The update includes major fixes to "flight range parameters" that caused issues with Dragonfire and Escort Drone scorestreaks, alongside other niggles. We've got the patch notes after the break.

Brendan awarded Treyarch's effort 8/10 in our Black Ops II review, suggesting that "existing party favourites, deathmatch options and shiny futuristic boomsticks will make this your new favourite online FPS."

UPDATE: Treyarch has also revealed patch notes for yesterday's PC update, which sorts out a couple of singleplayer glitches and adds FOV options.

UK Games Charts | 17th November 2012

In a real underdog story, plucky up-and-comer Call Of Duty: Black Ops II has beaten the big boys to the top of the UK charts.

In less sarcastic news, though Treyarch's shooter was the biggest launch of the year, it sold 300,000 less than the original Black Ops, making it the 4th biggest UK release of all time. Bizarrely, its poxy portable counterpart Black Ops: Declassified managed to beat a record - biggest Vita launch of the year - despite only clocking in at 17th place. And being crap.

Wonderbook managed to attain 25th place, impressive considering its niche appeal. The augmented reality experiment managed to beat LittleBigPlanet Karting, which clocked in at a somewhat lukewarm 28th.

As always, we've got the official UK top ten after the break.
