All good things must come to an end, and Dealspwn is no exception. We'll get right to the point - today is our last day of operation. While it is sad that we will be no more, there's no denying that we've had a fantastic run since we began in 2009. We've covered some utterly brilliant (and frankly terrible) games during that time, built up a fantastic community that has engaged and entertained us, and we saved you all a few pennies here and there.
Or sent out back the way of Old Yeller. I'm not sure how the internet actually works.Click here to read more...
Being the people that brought fan favourite character Crow to life in The Longest Journey and its sequel Dreamfall, it's safe to say that Dag Scheve & Ragnar Tørnquist of Red Thread Games know a thing or two about charming and majestic animals. With that in mind, it would have been a crime not to introduce them both to our mascot, Toby The Dealspwny
As you can see, they hit it off straight away, and now there's talk of a Toby / Crow / Wonkers buddy cop spin-off series.
If you haven't seen it already, be sure to check out our video interview with Dag & Ragnar from this year's Gamescom, where we talk about the upcoming adventure game Dreamfall Chapters.
We here at Dealspwn enjoyed the castle-building-loot-em-up that is The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot. However, upon seeing the throne from Ubisoft's F2P title, on the show floor at Gamescom, our very own Toby The Dealspwny insisted he have a couple of photos upon it with his two minions.
I for one welcome our new Dealspwny overlord.Click here to read more...
Having spent the last few years building Disney Fantasia over at Harmonix, developer John Drake knows a timeless character when he sees one. As you can clearly see from today's photographic evidence, Toby the Dealspwny gets the seal of approval.
Be sure to stay tuned to Dealspwn next week for our impressions on the upcoming music game from Harmonix!
The universe of Star Citizen may well have that lamp as its unintended mascot, but even Wing Commander creator and Cloud Imperium studio head Chris Roberts couldn't resist the charm of Toby the Dealspwny. Here we see Chris' rough ideas of a redesign for the game's logo. Frankly, we think it looks majestic.
If you haven't seen it already, be sure to check out our video interview that looks at the Hangar Module for Star Citizen, which releases later today.
Toby The Dealspwny managed to charm his way into the Activision press centre at Gamescom, and Infinity Ward's senior community manager Tina Palacios took time out to say hi to our very own mascot after giving us the latest info on Call of Duty: Ghosts' multiplayer.
We feel that that Toby should team up team Riley the dog in their own game mode for this year's blockbuster FPS. If anyone form Activision is reading this, I'm sure we can all agree it'll be a sure-fire winner.
Be sure to stay tuned for our report on COD: Ghosts' latest multiplayer news from this year's Gamescom!
Our last appointment at this year's Gamescom was at Microsoft, and look who we ran into -- none other than Major Nelson himself. Thankfully Mr. Hryb was a jolly good sport.
"What is it?" he said.
"It's the Dealspwny!" I replied.
"Ah...a pony. So I can ride it?"
It's a strange thing, to be faced with a stuffed grinning pony wearing a cape. Most, such as Goichi Suda, opted to have Toby fly around a bit. But Larry went with logic. Be sure to hit the jump for that particular gem.Click here to read more...
It's been a busy week for Dealspwn's very own mascot, meeting people across the gaming industry. Of course, there was only one person that Toby The Dealspwny absolutely had to say hello to, and that man was Quantic Dream's David Cage.
To quote the developer that was accompanying Cage at Gamescom, "Well, David, you've truly made it now." We're not going to disagree with that statement.
Wednesday saw the first day of Gamescom proper as the press and trade visitors descended upon the Koelnmesse in swarms. We give our overview of an eventful first day that saw us checking out the likes of Beyond: Two Souls, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Dark Souls, Wasteland 2, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Elsewhere, my microphone breaks, Toby proves to be huge hit with just about everyone, and we can't get the Peggle 2 music out of our heads.
Seriously, it's slowly driving me insane.
It's Gamescom week, folks! We've shipped both Matt and Carl our to Cologne, Germany to get hands-on with all the upcoming games and hardware, but before the madness begins we sat them both down to chat about what they were most looking forward to. Plus, everybody's favourite mascot, Toby The Dealspwny, makes an appearance!
Be sure to check back daily for more bite-sized video impressions from this year's show.
After we got hands-on with WildStar, which you can read about in our preview article, I was given the chance to sit out down Stephan Frost, the game design producer at Carbine Studios and the narrator of the DevSpeak videos. We go into detail about the Settler player path and how they affect the open world, discuss the Elder Game and PvP leaderboards, before rounding off with some community questions (and a cameo by the site’s own mascot, Toby The Dealspwny.) Watch our exclusive video after the jump.Click here to read more...
We've seen him meet Master Chief, and we've seen him meet Luigi, but we have one more instalment of Toby The Dealspwny's adventures from the 2013 Gadget Show Live. Our majestically Caped One returned home with a new friend, one who will never threaten to stab him in the back...Click here to read more...
Carrying on from yesterday, Dealspwn's very own majestic cape-wearing mascot Toby The Dealspwny continues his shenanigans around this year's Gadget Show Live. Today, we witness the moment he got to meet a rather iconic Italian Plumber....
No, the other one...Click here to read more...
Last week saw this year's Gadget Show Live being held in Birmingham, and while we sent Carl along to see what was on offer we didn't send him alone...
... that's right folks! It's the return of Dealspwn's very own mascot, Toby The Dealspwny, who has taken up a plush toy form! Unleashed upon an unsuspecting world, it was only a matter of time before the Caped One would come face to face with some well known industry figures, such as a certain humanity-saving Spartan.Click here to read more...
The beast that is E3 2012 came and went, a storm of violence, shiny graphics, controversy and hype. Being Dealspwn's man on the ground, I was able to play, dissect and critique the best that the show had to offer, bringing my impressions and interviews directly to you on a daily basis.
But hey, why don't we give out some arbitrary awards too? Everyone else is doing it.
So here we go: our tribute to the most promising games of E3 2012, complete with links to our previews and a couple of less-than-serious accolades that celebrate some of the expo's weirder moments.
Honourable Mentions: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Project P-100, SimCity
Quantic Dream were always going to impress, but Beyond: Two Souls shattered even our highest expectations. David Cage is working on a game - an actual, fully-playable game - that resembles a big-budget movie, exploring deep themes of death, loss, acceptance and the afterlife while actually giving players direct control over the proceedings. Using Aidan to possess SWAT agents, turning a hopeless stand-off into a circus of carnage, was one of the highlights of the entire show and we're convinced that Beyond is going to deliver a truly new and thoroughly worthwhile experience.Click here to read more...
We've had a couple of community things come in recently and, hot on the heels of the excellent Minecraft monument to our munificence, comes this. You see, Miss Rebecca Forster has gone and designed us a mascot.
Not only magnificent in appearance, but comes complete with awful, working pun! And we love puns.
His gargantuan eyes ferret out the best deals, you can tell from his smile that he has a discerning mind, stuffed with wit and opinion. He is faster than tractor, stronger than sheep, a paragon of creation, the Platonic Form of mascots. And he has a cape.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Toby the Dealspwny!
You'd better believe there's a plush toy in the works! [Rebecca Forster - Freelance Photographer | Fashion Designer]
