At A Glance: Roundup 30th December - 5th January 2014

Happy New Year readers! Here's to another year of gaming goodness. The lingering hangovers are slowly leaving our systems now, but the aching heads haven't stopped us from bringing you lots of features and reviews.

We finally get our hands on Broken Sword 5 - Part 1 after a long wait and it seems a kickstarted game was worth the effort for once! We're running out of things to play on our Xbox One, but Halo: Spartan Assault was mildly entertaining while it lasted. Risk of Rain isn't just wait the news has been saying all through Christmas, it's an addictive little indie game that Jon's been glued to for days now. In a move that's unusual for Nintendo, they've re-released some old games for you in the form of NES: Remix. Some things never change.

In our features section, Matt has a few new playthrough videos for Secrets of Raetikon and WildStar as Carl's finally convinced him to get back into MMOs. Anyone know where we can buy an intervention kit, just in case? Our awards season finally comes to close as we review the year, celebrate the Top Ten Games No-One Bought and choose the Best Game of 2013. Naturally, we opened up a vote for you guys too. Finally we look forward to 2014 by picking the games we're most looking forwards to in the next 12 months.

At A Glance: Roundup 16th-29th December 2013

Our roundup of the last two weeks is largely dominated by our Game of the Year awards where we pick out the best in multiple genres and formats. There are also individual staff picks for our favourite games, moments and disappointments of 2013, along with some games we're looking forwards to the most in 2014. Not to leave you guys out in the cold, to follow up our previous Games of the Generation pieces, we had you vote for your favourite games for your very own Top 100.

Elsewhere in the features, Carl has more details and playthrough videos for WildStar and the Hearthstone Beta, Matt tells us why he's still not ready to buy a Wii U. Jon gets some early access to the promising Dungeon of the Endless and gives us some video impressions. I rounded off the week by looking at the ever-depressing matter of digital console game prices with a feature entitled 'Consoles Doomed to Pay High digital Prices Forever?'

Our reviews section is a bit slim as you'd expect at this time of the year, but the two games are both must-have purchases as Jon reviews Bravely Default on the 3DS and I go on holiday to the Caribbean with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag on the PS4. Enjoy all the links below and Happy New Year from all of us at Dealspwn.com.

At A Glance: Roundup 9th-15th December 2013

This week saw a few new announcements for the likes in the inter-planetary No Man's Sky and Telltale announced they were working on tie-ins for both Borderlands and Game of Thrones, so they're going to very busy with four games on the go at once. Raiden has snubbed Sony as will only be turning up at Microsoft's party for MGS: Ground Zeroes. Next-gen machines are getting a few re-releaees too in the shape of Rayman and Tomb Raider.

But do we need these expensive re-releases? I delve into the matter in one of my features. Elsewhere we go through our staff picks for the Top 50 Games of the Generation. We've got lots of videos for you too in the shape of playthroughs for Doki Doki Universe and Dark Souls II. And after waiting for a small eternity, Carl finally gets his hands on the WildStar beta and has a sweet collection of videos showing off the game.

The last the big hitters of the year have arrived this week in our reviews section as we give scores to the likes of Zelda: A Link Between WorldsPeggle 2 and urm Knack. There's something weird going on with Doki Doki Universe, which confuses me just looking at it, thankfully Matt managed to make more sense of it on PS4. Not forgetting our friends on the PC we have reviews for Darkout and Ring Runner.

At A Glance: Roundup 2nd-8th December 2013

Sony have been celebrating a highly successful PS4 launch this week as the new console smashed records around the world. Microsoft have been a bit quieter about their sales figures, but at least they're battering the Wii U. But who isn't? PS4 may have the numbers, but Xboner's will have Peggle 2 by the end of the year, which a big win in these parts.

As promised, we got stuck into the next-gen reviews this week and have brought you the verdicts on Killzone: Shadow FallNBA 2K14Forza 5Dead Rising 3Need for Speed: Rivals, the PS4 console itself and Contrast.

We've taken a long look back over the PS3/Xbox 360 generation of gaming to bring you several staff roundtable articles on Best Game, Favourite Game, Highlight, Disappointment and Next-Gen Wish. We also have a Top Ten DLC of the generation, an article on promises this-gen broke and a piece on why Killzone on PS4 was such a letdown. There's more (we've been busy), Jon compiled a list of games that were almost great, but ultimately fell a little flat and also a list of improvements the Xbox One needs patched in ASAP. Carl's been rounding up the latest WildStar info and he recorded some video evidence as he bravely entered the Dark Souls II beta again, this time to take on the Red Phantom. To end the week I penned a Sunday Seven on some survival tips for Killzone: Shadow Fall.

At A Glance: Roundup 25th November - 1st December 2013

The next-gen console lineup was completed this week with the arrival of the PS4, we've been busy ever since and you can look forward to our reviews from next week. Elsewhere, the first Steam Box broke cover and the console wars could get a bit tasty if it sticks to its proposed $499 price tag. The Xbox One has been enjoying strong sales, in fact it's almost sold as many units in a week as the Wii U has in 12 months.

Our very own Lounge Commander, Jon, emerged this week to bring us an in-depth hardware review for the Xbox One console and the controller. From the launch lineup so far he's also reviewed the likes of Ryse: Son of RomeKiller Instinct and Crimson Dragon. Our other verdicts this week include retro PS4 shooter Resogun and the zombie-packed action RPG, How to Survive.

In the features, we've got loads of playthrough videos for you including NBA 2k14 on PS4, Dark Souls IIKnackResogun and the PS4's remote play and voice command features. We even have a comparison video of Assassin's Creed IV on current and next-gen consoles -we'll have a PS4 review for that one soon too. Matt took time to ease his singed retinas to bring you a survival guide for Resogun on PS4. Carl rounded up the latest details for the ever-tasty looking WildStar and Chris put together a Top 5 Zelda games list. Not forgetting the Xbox One, Jon put together a guide for some of the Xbox One's lesser known features and also penned a feature on microtransactions going forwards. Ok, that's all folks, time for some quality time our new consoles. Enjoy the links below.
