Destiny + all expansion DLC for just £21.46

This new version of Destiny is packed with value as it includes the base game, the original Season Pass expansion content (House of Wolves and The Dark Below) as well as the new expansion The Taken King. Today's sale price is comfortably cheaper than the competition too. Rakuten has the PS4 version for just £21.46.

There are some radical changes to the way the XP system works in Destiny too when The Taken King arrives. Essentially, the annoying Light system that forced you to equip certain items if you wanted the level boost is being replaced with something similar to the way you levelled up on the way to Lv.20. These are exciting times and it looks like Bungie are making a solid effort at bringing lapsed players back and giving them all the content in this edition seems like a smart move as it's only about £10-£15 more than the base game now. If you want to know more about Destiny's changes and what they mean for players, check out Carl's Destiny: The Taken King review.

Destiny: The Taken King launches today - here are the cheapest prices

Year two of Destiny has officially kicked off today with the release of The Taken King expansion. With new areas, new strikes, a whole bunch of new weapons to loot, and the removal of the Light level system, Bungie are essentially using it as a platform to relaunch the game after a divisive first year. The Legendary Edition includes all previously released content alongside the expansion, so we've searched around for the best prices to help former players and newcomers who want to give Destiny's second year a go.

Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes?

Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes?

Season Passes have become the scourge of games in recent years. We're not opposed to additional content for games, far from it. But when the cost of a Season Pass matches that of a full game, our alarm bells start to ring. What's worse, so many of these passes offer a paltry amount of content that simply doesn't justify the price. Consider that Season Passes often stick to their high price long after the main game can be bought for a fraction of the original cost a few months after release and the farce becomes even more laughable.

There are signs of encouragement though. Signs that a balance can be struck for developers and publishers making extra dough and so gamers can come away with good value for money. Right now, we're looking at CD Projekt Red (The Witcher III: Wild Hunt) and Bethesda (Fallout 4) as high-profile candidates to show the rest how it's done.

Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes?

That's a big claim, especially as their Season Pass content hasn't even been released yet. But it's pretty damn easy to see why I'm able to write about yet more season pass updates, but in a positive light rather than a rant about publisher greed. It's all about the price.

Destiny is currently FREE for PS4! Find out more here

This has almost certainly been done to emulate a similar move done over the weekend by a certain MMORPG, but here' what we know. The Destiny trial previously locked players to a level cap of 7, but that cap has now been lifted. What this means is that everything in the base game is now free to experience, meaning players can take on the Vault of Glass raid and take part in the Crucible PvP without paying a single penny.

Just to clarify - this does not include The Dark Below and House of Wolves expansions, but at least it means you can decide if you want to give Destiny another go, or if pre-ordering a copy of The Taken King is a good idea. We have no idea if this is the same for the Xbox One version, but if you have any joy be sure to let us know! Thanks to Blade3377 @ HUKD!

Destiny's upcoming changes could make it great again

Destiny was fantastic fun for the opening couple of months, but the seriously repetitive content soon became an issue. Bungie's hype fizzled out to reveal a selection of empty play areas of uninspired fetch quests. Then came the expansions via a Season Pass that cost as much as buying the original game again, albeit with a tiny amount of tangible new content or environments.

Combine this with a levelling system that seemed exceptionally miserly with rewards that forced players into choosing weapons and armour based on how it would affect their Light level rather than the statistical benefits offered elsewhere, and Destiny became a gruelling grind with no sense of purpose. Bungie tried to reinvent the wheel without conceding to the value of a curve.

Not everyone felt that way of course and the number of people still playing Destiny on a daily basis is seriously impressive given the very valid concerns listed above. Bungie could simply carry on as they are, with their loyal core audience locked-in for more of the same with the occasional hope of being granted the chance to pay a small fortune for an extra slice of the action. Through this lengthy and expensive process, Destiny has been slowly been making its way towards something resembling a complete product. In its current state, I personally feel Destiny is sorely lacking given my experience of the main game and what I've read about the expansions as a non-pass holder.

Limited Edition Destiny: The Taken King PlayStation 4 announced...

...and it's £399.99.

I think things are starting to get a little out of hand with Bungie and The Taken King. Sony have now announced the release of a limited edition Playstation 4 console based around DLC content. Weird.

"Guardians, I’m delighted to announce that a Limited Edition Destiny: The Taken King PlayStation 4 will be available across Europe, Australia and New Zealand on 15th September. This exclusive bundle will include a white Destiny-inspired 500GB Limited Edition PS4 and a physical copy of Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, which includes Destiny, Expansion I, Expansion II and The Taken King."

Destiny: The Taken King - The Legendary Edition is terrific value at only £39.85

Bungie are taking a bit of a kicking from their Destiny followers as of late due to the blatant lack of support for early adopters of the game. Destiny The Taken King - The Legendary Edition includes, for less than the price of the upcoming expansion pack:

  • Destiny (Base game)
  • Expansion 1 - The Dark Below
  • Expansion 2 - The House of Wolves
  • The Taken King

We are summing up an astonishing £80+ of Destiny content all neatly packed up into one product for only £39.85. It's a bargain, a controversial bargain, but a bargain nonetheless.

Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition only £41.75

I'd like to take a minute to do some simple mathematics if I could.

(PS4)

The above combination of the Destiny base game and the expansion pack for The Dark Below and House of Wolves equates to £44.49 and that's before we have even added on The Taken King at £40! (due for release in September).

Gameseek have Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition for only £41.75 which includes both items above and the upcoming The Taken King expansion. Bargain.

Destiny: The Taken King revealed | That's one angry dad

It probably wasn't the smartest idea to kill the Taken Kings son (Crota, The Dark Below) with his own sword. Oryx now seeks revenge.

The Taken King is pretty much about an angry dad (granted Oryx is the coolest angry dad we have ever seen). You killed his son with his own sword, he now wants to kill you. Simple.

Destiny's latest instalment lands September 15th in the form of The Taken King and comes complete with a whole bunch of exclusive new content including co-op Strikes, Crucible maps, exotic weapons and more.

Seize your Destiny for less than £10 on PS4 & Xbox One

Destiny is an odd and fiercely addictive little game. It's mechanically impeccable, the co-op is fantastic fun and the competitive multiplayer is highly underrated in this pundit's opinion -- even if it can turn into a massive thankless grind if you let it. The expansions have been insanely overpriced even if they add some cool new features to the experience, but if you don't mind sourcing them down the line, you can now delve into this moreish shooter for just £9.50 on PS4 and Xbox One.

The catch? It's a Nordic import, but runs in English and is region-free.

The jump into Destiny is definite value at £12.95

Destiny sure is a weird one, a beautiful game, but a weird one at that. You will either love it or hate it, it's as simple as that, but I personally recommend any Xbox One owner who is yet to make the jump into Destiny does so right now at £12.95.

"Despite the glaring issues that, understandably, some might not be able to overcome, Destiny does manage to create a sturdy foundation from which Bungie can build its new franchise. If you can get past its foibles you’ll discover an addictive online shooter that is just good old-fashioned fun on a delicious tasting bun." Destiny Review | Hope for the future (7/10)
