Braben Narrates Elite: Dangerous Capital Ship Trailer

David Braben has explained how they made the latest trailer for Elite: Dangerous, which depicted a team of mercenary pilots assisting in a capital ship battle. Apparently it was made in-engine, though features a few post-production 'spot effects' that won't make it into the final game such as the lens flare and Battlestar Galactica-esque zooming. Worth a watch if you're partial to your space sims (and aren't too busy in Star Citizen's Hangar Module - for the record I backed Dangerous first).

You can watch the original trailer here.

Rain Falling In Early October

Rain, the soulful PSN exclusive from Sony Japan Studio, has been officially dated for October 2nd in Europe. A haunting soundtrack will apparently play a key role in fleshing out the emotional tale of a young invisible boy lost in a moody lonely world, and thus the latest developer diary shows off the effort put into the sound design. Don't miss this one, audiophiles.

Carl has just got to grips with Rain at Gamescom, which he describes as "beautiful." For obvious reasons, really.

Infamous Devs Show off DualShock 4 Controller

Hot on the heals of yesterday's reveal trailer for new character, Fetch, we have another Infamous: Second Son video for you. This dev diary is an essential watch for any PlayStation fan wanting to see the DualShock 4's trackpad in use. The player can use it to make Delsin scan his finger at checkpoints, follow prompts for hacks or even for stealth attacks as he seemingly melts a guard's neck with his fiery hands.

The rest of the video displays Sucker Punch's enthusiasm for the new controller and even how they were invited to Japan to give feedback on early prototypes. Matt and Carl will be getting their own hands on the controller all this week, keep an eye out for their PS4 previews for their impressions.

Saints Row IV Dev Diary: What Happens In Space...

What happens in space definitely doesn't stay in space, at least according to this new developer diary for Saints Row IV. Senior producer Jim Boone, creative director Steve Jaros and lighting lead Chris Claflin get together for a lighthearted chat about the new virtual Steelport setting, that lets them play with reality in suitably silly ways.

Saints Row IV is out this month on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 - available in multiple editions including an insane $1,000,000 option. Check out our recent interview with producer Kate Nelson for the last word.

PayDay 2 Dev Diary Is All About The Payoff

Overkill Software have released a new developer diary showing the wealth of guns and upgrades players can buy with their ill-gotten gains in PayDay 2. We waxed lyrical about this massively entertaining cooperative heist 'em up in a recent PayDay 2 hands-on preview, and reckon that it could well be one of the most fun hits of the summer. Fingers crossed, masks on.

PayDay 2 is out next month on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Ryse: Son Of Rome Vidoc Shows Off Lavish Motion Capture

Crytek have released a 'making of' video that shows the painstaking motion capture behind Ryse: Son Of Rome. The brutal hack & slasher has been pilloried following a lacklustre E3 debut, but Crytek has assured players that the full game will be deep as well as visceral.

Ryse: Son Of Rome will be an Xbox One launch exclusive.

Europa Universalis IV Dev Diary Presents 'A Guide to Crushing Freedom'

Exploration and colonisation will play a key role in Europa Universalis IV as your burgeoning Empire seeks dominion beyond the waves. Shelter Dev Diary Explores The Harsh Reality Of Being A Badger

Might & Delight's Johannes Wadin and Andreas Wangler have starred in a new video diary to discuss upcoming hardcore badger survival simulator Shelter. No, really, it's a hardcore badger survival simulator. Players will need to explore a harsh world, fight for food and weather natural disasters to keep themselves and their cubs alive, many of whom won't make it through the changing of the seasons.

It's a fascinating concept, and the video is well worth checking out if it piques your interest. Shelter is out later this year and currently running a Steam Greenlight campaign.

Europa Universalis IV Dev Diary Gets Religious

It always helps to have God on your side (or at least claim to), and the latest developer diary for Europa Universalis IV goes into detail about how different factional faiths affect the grand strategy experience. "Will you allow reformation when it rears its head in Europe or stand your ground for Catholicism? Will you forego Christianity entirely and become a champion of the Muslim or Buddhist faiths?" asks the blurb.

Europa Universalis IV releases in August, whereupon we will plunge into yet another infinitely deep grand strategy game in search of a final verdict.

Star Trek Dev Diary: An Original Story

Namco Bandai's latest making of video for the upcoming Star Trek game goes into detail about the story. This includes information of a female vulcan (possibly a former love interest of Spock) and a rift machine that rips space a new one and allows the lizardy Gorn to fly in and attack anything without scales. The game is going to be set in-between the 2009 movie and the upcoming Star Trek: Into Darkness. It's released on April 26th, two weeks before the new movie, giving fans plenty of time to lap up the first proper Star Trek game in years. Don't forget to check out Matt's preview too.

Star Trek Dev Diary Has Gorn Crazy

The latest 'making the game' video for Star Trek: The Videogame shows how the Gorn evolved from an extra in an unconvincing plastic suit to an militaristic race bent on utter domination. You'll get to see plenty of gameplay footage, several of the Gorn castes (read, enemy varieties) and some more of Pegg's forced Scottish accent. The film tie-in releases next month, and we've got more details in our Star Trek hands-on preview.
