Shadow Of The Eternals Kickstarter Fails

Shadow Of The Eternals Insanity System Explained In New Dev Diary

Twitch.TV Broadcasts Scheduled

With eight days left to raise two thirds of their Kickstarter funding target, Precursor Games have released some footage showing off how players will become increasingly deranged while playing Shadow Of The Eternals. Much like its spiritual predecessor Eternal Darkness, encountering cyclcopean horrors from beyond the pale gradually leads to all manner of bizarre visual effects and fourth-wall breaking chicanery.

You can check out the new developer diary after the break, along with details of two scheduled live broadcasts on Twitch.TV. Will Precursor Games be able to fund the game this third time? It's got David Hayter, you know.

Snake? Snaaaaaaaaaake?! What are you doing in a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness?

Precursor Games have relaunched their Kickstarter campaign for Shadow Of The Eternals following a muted (if not downright hostile) response to their original crowd funding campaign. The premise of a psychological horror adventure from the Eternal Darkness team is still the same, but Precursor have upped their game with a more realistic funding target, David Hayter, traditional non-episodic format and a PS4 version in hopes that the third time will be the charm.

You can check out the Shadow Of The Eternals Kickstarter pitch for more info. Will they reach $750K over the next 29 days?

Shadow Of The Eternals Crowd-Funding "Temporarily" Shut Down

Kickstarter To Relaunch With "New Developments"

Following an incredibly apathetic response from the gaming community, ex-Silicon Knights studio Precursor Games have taken down their Kickstarter campaign for Shadow Of The Eternals. Apparently they've managed to take advantage of some "new developments," which will see the crowd funding relaunch soon.

Details and theories after the jump.

Shadow Of The Eternals "Unlikely" To Release If Kickstarter Fails

Precursor Games have warned that Shadow Of The Eternals (the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness) probably won't come to fruition if their crowd-funding campaign fails to hit its lofty $1.5 million target.

Which, judging by the currently lukewarm reception, is looking increasingly likely.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's ...

After a bunch of rumours and leaks, Precursor Games' spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, named Shadow of the Eternals, is finally out in the open. The Canadian studio, helmed by ex-Silicon Knights bods Paul Caporicci and Denis Dyack, is looking for $1.5 million in crowdfunding through their own website.

Dyack: Silicon Knights "Working On An IP That's Our Most Requested"

Denis Dyack has been dropping a few tidbits here and there for the next-gen title that Silicon Knights has been busily working upon, without ever really giving too much away. However, a recent statement suggests that the rumours and rumblings of a follow-up to Eternal Darkness might not be too far from the mark.

Unless of course, we're wrong and the most requested game is in fact Cyber Empires or Too Human.

Dyack: New Eternal Darkness "Not Too Much To Ask"

It's not too big a shout to declare that Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was one of the finest games to grace the Gamecube. Although it didn't set the world alight with sales (pretty much the story of the Gamecube, that), it was a critically acclaimed slice of psychological horror. better still, Silicon Knights aren't ruling out a return.

Silicon Knights: 'Returning To Its Roots' With Mysterious New Project

Working On "One Of Its Most Requested Titles"

Silicon Knights, the Canadian developer in the grip of massive layoffs and publishing woes after a couple of misfiring titles, has announced that they're working on revamping one of their classic IPs for a new generation. Speaking to Kotaku, Silicon Knights confirmed the rumoured job losses, but came out swinging with the following exciting tidbit.

"The company is currently refocusing and returning to its roots, working on one of its most requested titles for the next generation."

So, what could this mean? Silicon Knights will have to own the rights to the IP in order to switch publishers, meaning that the smart money is on them acquiring rights to Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain from Square Enix - who have past form in selling off properties that they don't plan to develop. Eternal Darkness 2 would also be wonderful, but they'd need to wrestle with Nintendo or make a pledge to develop for the Wii U. We'll keep you posted.
