Peggle Nights £FREE @ PopCap.com [PC/Mac Games]

Peggle Nights £FREE @ PopCap.com [PC/Mac Games]

WARNING! Peggle can seriously damage your work/social/family life, continue at your own risk. It’s disturbing but PopCap are like the crack dealers of the gaming world, they produce some of the most addictive games known to man and here’s your chance to get your hands on one of the most famous for free. You’ll need two email addresses, one to create a PopCap Passport with and another to ‘gift’ the free game to. Just click the link below and follow the instructions on PopCap.com.

While you’re going through the process, here are a couple of extra points people have come across. You’ll need to sign up for the PopCap newsletter, but hey you can always filter it to junk. The registration email can take up to five minutes to come through, so be patient. Finally when you get your ‘gift’ email you’ll need to enter your postal address. For UK residents make sure you leave a space between the two sections of the post code. Otherwise everything should be very straight-forward.

There’s no doubt that if you haven’t experienced the rush of Peggle you better prepare yourself. Never has so much fun been had from a tiny cannon firing balls around a computer screen! Like Breakout on steroids, all you’re doing is clearing orange balls and squares from the screen – but the first time you hear Ode to Joy burst forth from your speakers it’s enough to bring even a grown man to tears. It’s fiendishly clever, guiding you through new levels and leading you on with new power-ups. Much like Pringles, once you pop you can’t stop.

Aliens vs Predator Multiplayer Demo Now Available @ Steam, PSN & Xbox Marketplace

Aliens vs Predator Multiplayer Demo Now Available @ Steam, PSN & Xbox Marketplace

We’ve recently featured some great preorder deals for Rebellion’s upcoming first person shooter, but it’s always difficult to decide whether or not to take the plunge and preorder a game without any reviews or hands-on experience. Luckily, Rebellion has just released a multiplayer demo of Aliens Vs Predator that’ll give you a good idea of what the full game has in store.

The demo grants you access to a single map and deathmatch gametype, but more importantly lets you take the Marine, Alien and Predator out for a spin. I’ve spent some time playing as all three species and I can happily report they offer very different gameplay experiences. The Marines are the most conventional combatants, with powerful firearms (such as the classic homing Smartgun) and traditional FPS-style tactics. Squads that stick together and communicate properly tend to wipe the floor with xenomorphs and cocky predators that attack piecemeal- definitely make sure you’ve got a headset!

The Aliens play very differently. The ability to scale any surface allows them to take position high above unwary players and pounce when their back is turned. Grabbing and chowing down on tasty, succulent humans is an exhilarating experience – though mastering their blinding speed and disorientating camera took a fair bit of practice (and a fair few deaths!).

The Predator sits halfway between the two with a subtle blend of stealth, melée prowess and advanced firepower. They start with nothing but the bare minimum of equipment (to balance them out), forcing them to scrounge and hide before being able to take on a skilled enemy. I didn’t really enjoy the Predator experience as much as the other two (in other words, I got completely destroyed online), but they’re clearly an advanced multirole character who will reward clever tactics and singleplayer practice down the line.

Download the demo and let us know what species you prefer!

Free World Of Goo (Well, $0.01!) [PC Game]

Free World Of Goo (Well, $0.01!) [PC Game]

[DIGG] As a birthday celebration, 2Dboys are offering their great little game, World Of Goo, for only $0.01! They ask you to pay whatever you think it is worth, and 1 cent is the minimum charge possible. This game is £17 on Steam and Direct2Drive right now, just to compare. They are running this free World of Goo offer until the 19th of October 2009.

You can download the PC, Mac or Linux version, or you can even get it through Wiiware to play on your Nintendo Wii.

How to get the game for practically nothing:

  • Go to the 2Dboy website and click the “get it” button
  • Enter your donation, minimum $0.01
  • Pay through paypal
  • Check your email for the download link

I felt so cheap typing in $0.01 in the paypal part, that I upped it to $1, which is about £0.66. I’ve just paid, and I’m waiting on further instructions on how to download the game. It’s going quite slow, so I reckon they are very busy with requests. UPDATE – the download email didn’t seem to be coming through at all, so am filling in this form. Most people seem to be getting the download link immediately.Free World Of Goo (Well, $0.01!) [PC Game]

IGN state this game is absolutely phenomenal, so I am going to give it a try now.

Thanks go to Macdory on HotUkDeals!

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

It’s nearing spooky season – the pumpkins are appearing in Tesco, Thriller is being played more and more on the radio, and the kids are already knocking the doors in premature trick-or-treating. I’ve gone on a bit of a web hunt for some cheap and cheerful gaming fun for Halloween, and found 10 Halloween-themed free games for you to play online. Here they are, in no particular order:

1. Halloween Bubble

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

For those of you who remember good old Puzzle Bobble, this is a free online Halloweeny version!

Instead of the basic coloured bubbles that were in Puzzle Bobble, Halloween Bubble has orange pumpkins, white ghosts, black cats, etc. You just match the same colours to make them disappear. It’s relatively simple, but this little game can eat up 20 minutes of your time before you even notice it!

On my first try, I got a fairly decent score of 32,790. The sound effects are a bit annoying, but you can just hit mute on your computer if they start to bug you.

2. Halloween Mahjong

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

Another alternate of an old favourite, Halloween Mahjong is exactly as the name suggests!

Instead of strange cryptic Asian characters on the tiles, we have Frankenstein, ghosts, gravestones and eyeballs. Quite an addictive little number, but the 3D layout of the board is a bit hard to read.

3. Zombie Farm

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

With the ear-grating organ soundtrack, this is a great little zombie sim game!

Your aim is to infest a country with zombies – kind of like Civilisation for the undead! If you see a person walk across the bottom of your screen, be sure to click on them to add one person to your zombie army. The annoying thing about this game is that if you lose a battle, you have to start it all over again, as you have lost your army of the undead.

4. Vox Populi, Vox Dei (a werewolf thriller)

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

This funky looking werewolf game is a very simple little platformer.

Once you start the game, there are a few intro screens which tell you the controls. Meeting your first werewolf is great fun! This game actually made me cackle out loud at some of the killings – give it a shot! It does get quite difficult when there are multiple werewolves on the screen though.

5. Ghoul Academy

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

You’ve got to ignore all the annoying ads all over the page for this game.

Take a look at the “how to” before you play, to familiarise yourself with the controls. Ghoul Academy takes you as Father Painbringer on a platform journey through the graveyard. I found this one quite difficult, and only made it to level 2 before giving up. How far did you get?

6. Halloweenies

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

This free online game is a simple puzzle game where you are a witch on a broomstick and you have to collect marshmallows, chocolate, candies and pumpkins, and avoid the ghosts, bats and gravestones. Sounds simple enough!

My first score was only 27 points, I am sure you can beat that. I found this little game a bit boring though, but good for a few minutes fun.

7. Spooky Spider Hunter

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, as it is one of those “hidden object” style games.

While they’re not exactly hidden, you have to click on all the spiders you can find, over a series of spooky pictures. I scored 56,796 on my try.

8. Square meal

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

This game is an incredibly addictive little puzzler from Miniclip.

You play as a cute little green monster. You must stun your enemies with blocks, then eat them, to clear the levels. It looks like there are about 50 levels. I found this one extremely addictive, I think I lost about 2 hours playing it when I first found it, making it to level 26 before the RSI kicked in. I was of the “just one more level” mentality, as all the levels are quite short and sweet. Soundtrack isn’t annoying either.

9. Hollowscream

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

This is just a simple point and click monster shoot-em-up.

I killed 45 monsters on my first try here. Probably doesn’t have much return-ability, but it’s an OK little game.

10. Bashing Pumpkins

10 Free Spooky Halloween Games

This game is hilarious! The concept is simple – bash as many pumpkins as you can by putting your mouse over them when they appear.

It probably doesn’t have a great replay value, as the game is the exact same the second time round. I giggled when the pumpkins started flying out of the Easter Island statue’s nose, and when the spread-eagled lady appeared. On my first try I scored 359 of 455 pumpkins, probably could have done better. Give this game a try if you want a quick laugh.

Free PC Game With BigFishGames Voucher Code: Mystic Inn [PC Games]

Free PC Game With BigFishGames Voucher Code: Mystic Inn [PC Games]There’s nothing quite like getting your hands on a free game, and on top of that not having to indulge in some immoral, borderline illegal, activity to do it. Yes, with no corrupt ploy to take advantage of some programming error – like pausing the game, pressing enter fifty times, un-pausing, holding control, turning your computer upside down – you’ll be able to sleep the sleep of a good, righteous, law abiding gamer.

The free game itself is a Causal Puzzle Title called Mystic Inn, which normally costs $6.99 to download from Big Fish Games. However by following the below link, adding Mystic Inn to your shopping cart, and then entering the voucher code MYSTICFREE, the balance will revert to zero.

With their simple graphics, it is easy to see why casual gaming titles such as this might initially appear unappealing to many gamers. However it is surprising how addictive they become. True, it’s not exactly Left for Dead, but Mystic Inn is one of those games which effortlessly eats away the hours. It’s fun, laid back, and offers a refreshing departure from the full on gameplay of all those commercial titles.

The game centres upon a character called Daphne who, initially wandering through the forest like something out of Ovid, comes across a strange inn. Drawn in by some magic spell, Daphne is cursed to work behind the bar and serve up broths to passing through witches and mages. By serving the customers in a timely fashion, Daphne can earn points, unlock various bonuses and eventually lift the hostess curse which keeps her banished behind the bar. Overall, this is a decent, causal sort of game – very similar to Diner Dash – which offers a great way to kill some time.

Can Girls Multitask Better Than Boys?

Everyone has probably heard of the theory that females can handle multiple tasks at once, better than males can. This gives the girls multitasking superiority over us boys, which my female friends are always quick to point out. There have been many psychological tests to investigate this theory, but let’s be honest – who wants to read pages of boring text when instead you can play an addictive flash game?

Can Girls Multitask Better Than Boys?

Let's get started...

Multitask, as with all addictive flash games is extremely simple because all you have to do is press left and right to balance a ball on a beam to stop it falling off. Your score adds up the longer you last.

Can Girls Multitask Better Than Boys?

Ok, still seems easy

Just as you start to wonder where multitasking comes into the game, you’ll be introduced to the next stage of the game where you have to balance the ball and move a marker up and down to avoid incoming spikes. Still seems easy enough..

Can Girls Multitask Better Than Boys?

Now it gets tricky

The addition of a third element ramps up the difficulty and starts the frustration. A small box needs to be moved using the WASD keys to touch another box, within ten seconds of it appearing. Aside from trying to watch all three elements of the game, having two sets of directional controls is initially confusing.

Can Girls Multitask Better Than Boys?

Argh, not more!

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, a fourth section is added where you press the space bar to avoid the obstacles. Lasting any amount of time at this stage of the game is a challenging feat. It’s debatable whether the game is testing multitasking or more simply spatial awareness, as after a couple of runs it does become much easier to manage the multiple directional controls. However, I may well be wrong and the female gamers will be able to excel – what’s your best score?  I’m off to try and better mine…

Can Girls Multitask Better Than Boys?

Am I going to be ashamed?

Free PC Games @ Steam

Free PC Games @ Steam

When times are tight and you need to free up some cash nothing quite beats a nice long list of really decent, and more importantly, totally free PC games. Yes in some mad attempt to publicize themselves, offload advertising banners or just to be loved, Steam are offering PC gamers the chance to install some great titles totally free of charge!

However do remember that some of these games are specific to a particular PC graphics card and will not run on all machines…So if you have an ATI/AMD (Radeon) graphic card then you’ll be free to download the following:

Nividia (GeForce) Graphics users can get their hands on:

For all steam users the following titles are available:

Free addons and resources for already purchased games:

There are also a huge list of MODs which can be downloaded, so to view the list click on the link above. However one game which jumps out immediately is Americas Army 3.

AA3  is one of the biggest and most enjoyable online army first person shooter games available. It is a combat simulator which prides itself on realism and this is reflected in its weapons and its graphics – which are reminiscent of Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault.

Surprisingly this is a fairly unknown/underrated FPS but it is definitely up there as one of the best available. So if competitive combat simulators are you’re sort of thing don’t bother spending £30-40 pounds on games like Armed Assault 2 [Gamebase] when Americas Army is easily one of the best multiplayer FPSers you can get your hands on – and it’s totally free!!

Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall FREE @ ElderScrolls [PC Game]

Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall FREE @ ElderScrolls [PC Game]

Fans of the Elder Scrolls series, or RPG-aficionados who happened to miss the second instalment, Daggerfall, can download it for free from the official Elder Scrolls site, although you must also run an emulator and have a computer with sufficient power.

A price-comparison isn’t necessary when a game is free, and neither is mention of delivery cost, seeing as how you download it directly to your computer! A few caveats remain, however, with an age restriction limit, as Daggerfall is rated M for Mature, and your computer must be equipped with the site’s proprietary emulator and be powerful enough to run the 13 year-old game. The minimum system requirements demand at least 8MB of RAM, 50MB of HD head-space, a 256-Colour VGA graphics card, and a 66 MHZ processor with Direct X 2 compatibility.

The sequel to Elder Scrolls: Arena, Daggerfall had the largest game-world of any Elder Scrolls game, past and present, with an estimated 161,600 square kilometres of Tamriel land to explore, stuffed with cities, villages, forests and dungeons.

Daggerfall is a typical Elder Scrolls game. It follows a mute protagonist, an errand boy for the Emperor, who uncovers a secret plot to unearth a powerful god and perhaps resurrect the Underking himself! It’s a well-told story, although visually it’s a bit dated by today’s standards. However, the core appeal of an Elder Scrolls game is present here, with countless side-quests and memorable moments lurking in the code. Daggerfall even has six different unique endings, depending on the player’s decisions.

Free 10 Day Trial Of World Of Warcraft @ Trywarcraft.com [PC Game]

Free 10 Day Trial Of World Of Warcraft @ Trywarcraft.com [PC Game]

The World of WarCraft video game has certainly created quite a stir in recent years. It has been dubbed by many as one of the most addictive games ever made. A game which drains the soul, forces people into rehab and has even resulted in someone’s death after they played it for 36 hours solid… I know, sounds great doesn’t it! So if you’re interested to see what all the fuss is about then check out this 10 day free trial being offered from the official War craft website.

The World of Warcraft is the massive multiplayer online role play game to own. In terms of its level of complexity, graphics, scale, gameplay and the sheer number of players involved it cannot be beaten. However this is also the game’s biggest flaw.

It is ridiculously time consuming and dangerously addictive! The world is just so vast that your little character gets bogged down in all sorts of missions, explorations and co – operative actions which just go on and on for days.

For example dungeon raids can involve a group of up to forty people who have to be organised meticulously before venturing out. This alone can take a good few hours, so once you have picked up the game you’re not going to be putting it down again for a good long while. So handle carefully!

It terms of storyline, War Craft takes place four years after the carnage of The World of War Craft III: Reign of Chaos. The lands of Azeroth stand ravaged by war. But now, as the kingdoms are being rebuilt a new threat has descended, and players must unite together if they are to have any hope of defeating this new evil.

So fans of MMORPG be warned, this one becomes an obsession. But on the plus side after some really hardcore gaming you can eventually sell your WOW account – and sometimes these go for hundreds if not thousands of pounds on Ebay! So there you go, it’s not all a futile waste of time after all…
