Hideo Kojima reforms Kojima Productions, first title to be PS4 exclusive

After months of seemingly forced silence from Konami, Hideo Kojima has finally reemerged to announce that Kojima Productions has been reformed. The news was confirmed with the opening of a brand new website for the studio, which announces everything in a very Kojima-like manner. In addition to the studio creation, it was also revealed that the team's first game will be backrolled by Sony, and will be a PS4 exclusive as a result. We've got the announcement video, which features a slightly excited Andrew House, for you to watch after the jump.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Launch Trailer

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier appears to mix fast paced action with stealth tactics as you try to track down the source of a dirty bomb, plus you'll get to play with some interesting gadgets during your travels. This one looks like it's trying to do something a little bit different from the majority of shooters on the market and I for one want to see more. In addition to a fully co-operative campaign, you'll also get to take on your friends in the multiplayer modes. The game comes out on 25th May for the Xbox 360 and PS3, whereas the PC version comes out a little bit later on 15th June.

Star Wars Galaxies Coming To An End!

I remember rushing out to get Star Wars Galaxies when it first came out only to disappointingly discover that my internet was far too basic to run it, now it's eight years later and the game'll be coming to its conclusion in about two weeks on the 15th December, which shouldn't come as a surprise to you if you're a regular reader of our news blog.

So what should you expect from this epic event? Well the Galactic Civil War will draw to a close on the 14th December, following which the scoreboards'll be combed over and the winning side'll be declared. Then the servers'll be restarted and on the 15th December a number of battles and events'll be held for everyone who still loves the game, before the servers are finally closed down.

If you want to be kept up to date with all the details concerning this sad event, then you should probably cast your eyes over the game's forums. [Massively]

Dr. Who: The Adventure Games Return!

If anybody caught any of my reviews for last year's series of the Dr. Who: Adventure Games, you'll know that I thought they were pretty good for free games, but needed one or two improvements to stand up to the rest of the video games on the market at the moment.
Well, for those of you who have been missing them, or want a substitute for the charismatic Time Lord's TV adventures until Christmas comes around, this year's Adventure Games start back up tomorrow with The Gunpowder Plot.
The Doctor, Amy, and Rory find themselves back in 1605 and have to stop two alien races from altering a major point in time. If that's grabbed your interest and you want to find out more, you'll just have to download the game tomorrow from the BBC's Dr. Who website, which you can get to by clicking here.

COD Black Ops

Can Call of Duty be stopped? Activision's annualized blockbuster has shattered yet another record, with the latest edition Black Ops becoming the top-selling UK game of all time. It bested step-sibling, Modern Warfare 2, which up until now had held the crown. No stranger to rampant success, Black Ops earned a massive 650 million dollars within five days when it was released in November of last year.

EDF: Insect Armageddon | Playstation 3 | Xbox 360

edf_1 copy

Fret not, Earth Defence Force fans; it's only by a week or so. On his official Twitter feed, Namco Bandai's PR guru Lee Kirton has revealed EDF: Insect Armageddon UK launch has been pushed back from July 15th to the 22nd. It appears the publishers have hit a very minor hitch in production, but Kirton assures us it's well worth the wait. "Trust me that it's a great game for a great price," he boasts. "And co-op!" he adds.

Our resident EDF fan, Jon Lester, got his hands on Insect Armageddon at E3 this month. While he applauded the vast scope and scale of the title, he lamented the loss of its pulpy, B-Movie roots eschewed in favor of "grittier battlefields". And remember; Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon is retailing for the cut-price of £24. But if you want a cheaper price, you know who to call. [Twitter]

Jon got hands-on with the upcoming Zelda title, Skyward Sword, at E3 this month and came away very impressed. And at their conference, Nintendo had an entire orchestra lurking just below the stage, wowing the crowd with orchestral renditions of classic Nintendo tunes, including Zelda soundbites. Incidentally, Skyward Sword will feature more orchestral music than any Zelda title before it, and Nintendo have been discussing their work in the latest Iwata Asks column.

I was initially very disappointed with Fable The Journey, until Peter Molyneux came out in defense of his studio's first Kinect title, refuting claims of it being simply an on-the-rails shooter. Yes, I'm falling for his hyperbole all over again! That said, even Molyneux himself has admitted their showing at Microsoft's E3 2011 conference wasn't great due to time concerns. However, he promises that come Gamescom in August, Lionhead will have a much better build to show off to the assembled press.

Earlier this month, we reported that Crytek had access to the Next Xbox tech and were already hard at work on a fourth Timesplitters title in time for the console's unknown launch date. They swiftly denied the rumor; as if they'd ever confirm it! However, in an exchange with Now Gamer, Crytek confirmed they're "looking into" the possibility of a Timesplitters game.

Duke Nukem's return was greeted with much fanfare, but the end result was almost unanimously disappointing. Tom didn't like it; neither did Dave much. That said, it's managed respectable sales, shifting well over half a million copies in the US. This mild success appears to have prompted 2K Games into action, announcing Apple aficionados will be booting up the Duke in August when its ported to the Mac.

Dark Souls isn't going to be easy, folks. In fact, the spiritual successor to the notoriously difficult Demon Souls is set to be even more sadistically cruel. I suggest investing in a controller or two, in case you happen to shatter yours on a nearby wall. If you want to be in with a fighting chance come October of this year, publishers Namco Bandai are holding a competition wherein fans patent a shield, with the best design making it into the game itself.

Fable III

peter-molyneux

Peter Molyneux is nothing if not honest. While you can ridicule him all you like for his over enthusiastic marketing and hype, he genuinely believes in his team and their work, even if his passion sometimes blinds him to stone cold facts. Case in point; Fable 3. The third title in Microsoft's morality-infused role-player didn't hit the same sort of critical heights as its predecessors - Carl awarded it a 7 - and Molyneux admits he was "pretty ashamed" by Lionhead's final product.
