And so the exodus continues. Speaking at GDC yesterday, Will Wright annouced that work is currently underway on several new projects - the first confirmation of such news since last game Spore hit the shelves in 2008.

So will he return on a glowing white charger to shake up the high-profile, big-budget battlefield once more with something wildly innovative and original? Well...no, would be the short answer...

Will Look "Very Good" On Consoles


We know you're psyched for Battlefield 3. It's managed to set the internet alight over the last few days thanks to a stunning showing at GDC... but some offscreen footage has sneakily crept through the burly security and PR ninjas that tend to surround the EA paddock. This stuff keeps getting pulled as often as it goes up, but here's a working link we've found. What's more, DICE have confirmed that BF3 will still "look good" on consoles despite only seeing PC footage so far.

Rumours about Bungie's current Activision-published project have been floating around over the last few months; but none were more exciting than last month's allegation that they were working on an massively multiplayer shooter that would resemble "WoW in space." We were all over the rumour when it broke - and Bungie have now officially confirmed it at GDC.

UPDATE: Dong! Bungie have spoken out to insist that this statement was a joke... but no-one's laughing. Or buying it in the slightest. More details below.

Only Room For AAA And Indie In Today's Marketplace

Epic Games CEO Cliff "Cliffy B" Bleszinski believes that the gaming market has changed over the last few years, and warns publishers that it's simply not okay to release half-decent games any more. According to Epic, only the biggest blockbuster triple-A titles and smaller Indie releases will ever sell in large numbers, with the "Middle Class" game doomed to obscurity and poor sales. He might have a point, actually.

David Cage, head of game development at Quantic Dream, has stated that he wishes to make a war game with an “emotional” approach, moving away from the mainstream’s idea of how the war genre is portrayed, citing classic films Apocalypse Now and Platoon as influences for such a project.

Fresh intel from GDC has shed more light on the NGP's enigmatic card-based storage format. We now know know the capacity of these "Game Cards," as well as some interesting tidbits about its dual removable memory. It seems that Sony have learned more than a few lessons from its experimental (and utterly dire) PSP Go.

Nintendo's GDC 2011 conference has just wrapped in sunny San Francisco, headed up by CEO Satoru Iwata. With the 3DS already available in Japan and due for release in Europe this month, exciting things were expected from Nintendo, and once Iwata had finished a rather lengthy look back at all that his company and the industry has achieved in the past quarter of a century, he let slip with some rather tasty announcements. New Super Mario! Ocarina of Time In June!

Oh. Snap! A new Super Mario is in development for the 3DS, with development headed up by none other than the Mario Galaxy team! No gameplay was shown or much in the way of details revealed, but the logo, which Nintendo claimed was 'temporary', featured a tail curling from the 'O', which Iwata teasing "You may wonder what this indicates", before finally stating "we will reveal this at E3 this year".

He moved on to Zelda next, which just celebrated it's 25th anniversary. Fittingly, Nintendo announced the 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time, which features brand new visuals and content, would be launching in June this year. That's less than three months! Iwata debuted some footage from Skyward Sword next, although no new info was revealed.

Sucker Punch were set to reveal a "big secret" at this year's GDC- and we certainly weren't disappointed. They took the lid off a User Generated Content suite for inFamous 2 that will allow players to design and create their own levels with different challenges, objectives and abilities. These tools will enter public beta later this year, and we have the details below.

Following on from Team Meat's words decrying Microsoft's lack of support and capability as a download publisher, Klei Entertainment, the developer behind last year's side-scrolling action-fest Shank, have stepped into the ring to take a swing at box LIVE's Summer of Arcade, suggesting that the two week promotion is actually somewhat detrimental to wider developmental success on the platform.

New Engine Will Raise The Bar

Battlefield 3 is definitely this year's headline act at GDC, and EA are keen to showcase the action and visuals that DICE have been crafting using the Frostbite 2.0 engine. The new gameplay trailer looks absolutely stunning (in fact, it appears to be FMV at first glance), and EA are confident that BF3 will "leapfrog" the FPS genre. Hit the jump for more details.

Valve have announced their future plans of a Big Picture mode for Steam that will be aimed at controller and Television interactivity. The reveal came at GDC 2011, which kicked off in San Diego yesterday.
