It wasn't too long ago that SOE president John Smedley was teasing an upcoming reveal for a previously unannounced title, and last night the veil was well and truly lifted. It's called H1Z1, and it's a survival horror sandbox title that will utilize the Forgelight engine - the same engine used to power PlanetSide 2 - with some tweaks brought over from Landmark to provide players with the tools to build safehouses and fortresses.
So in short it's DayZ + Rust x PlanetSide 2. But there's going to be more to it than that, if the initial reports are correct, although we do know for certain that the entire game will be Free 2 Play. We've got the initial video reveal for you to watch above, but we've gathered up all the interesting bits of info for you to look over after the jump.Click here to read more...
We won’t be getting any actual information until SOE Live in August, but Sony Online Entertainment have opened up a new website dedicated to the upcoming sequel to the original MMORPG success story – Everquest. The website contains five videos that tell a different story relating to Everquest and Everquest 2, from dressing up in costumes for a wedding, to helpful parenting tips, and winning a car. You can check them out by heading over to the Everquest Next website here.
Details are rather light on the ground at the moment, but we do know that Everquest Next will use the Forgelight engine that is currently used for Planetside 2 (which means huge open areas of land and thousands of players online at once are possible) and SOE studio head John Smedley has hinted heavily at the idea that it will be a huge sandbox game, distancing itself from the theme park experience that was Everquest 2. We’ll keep you posted on any new information as it emerges.
Last night, Sony Online Entertainment broadcast their SOE Live Keynote, and while we were expecting news of PlanetSide 2’s release date, which has now been confirmed as November 21st, we also learned of a new MMO title from the studio called Wizardry Online. We have all the details, including the reveal video for PS2’s new continent Amerish, after the jump.
Quite update for you all; SOE President John Smedley took to the PlanetSide 2 forums to announce that during a livestreamed keynote on Thursday we would finally be learning the official release date for the upcoming Free-To Play MMOFPS. In addition, we will be getting our first look at the third continent of Amerish. You can read the post in full, which also discusses the current state of development, by clicking here.
We’ll be sure to have all the details from the keynote as they are announced. In the meantime, you can still apply to join the on-going beta test or purchase a Founders pack for PlanetSide 2 by heading over to the official website.
The promotional engine continues to turn for PlanetSide 2, the sequel to Sony Online Entertainment’s persistant MMOFPS. A new CGI trailer, titled “Death Is No Excuse”, was released in the early hours of the morning and features a New Conglomerate assault force taking on a Terran Republic base… with the Vanu Sovereignty not far behind. Check out the trailer for yourself after the jump.Click here to read more...
We don’t cover much in the way of MMORPG news at the moment (unless it involves the words ‘wars’, ‘republic’, ‘the’, ‘star’, and ‘old’, not necessarily in that order) but here’s one game that should be worth keeping an eye on. Last night President of Sony Online Entertainment John Smedley used his Twitter account to officially unveil the existence of PlanetSide 2, previously known as PlanetSide Next to the fans. The MMOFPS has long been rumoured to be in development, but now an official website, along with a countdown timer, has emerged.Click here for more info on the upcoming MMOFPS >>
