Kid Icarus Uprising drops to £14.86 again in the Shopto Pay Day Sale

Kid Icarus Uprising is a triumphant and emphatic return to form for Nintendo. It contains more innovation, more personality and more unabashed fun than we've seen over the last two years from the beloved company; creating a unique, gorgeous, unfailingly competent and staggeringly replayable portable epic.

Uncomfortable controls stop Uprising from securing perfect marks, but be in no doubt, this absolutely has to become part of your collection. Kid Icarus Uprising Review | Soaring Return To Form

Kid Icarus: Uprising | £19.99 | Argos | 3DS

Scoring a mighty 9/10 in our review, it's safe to say this is one of the finest titles on the 3DS. The controls take a bit of getting used to, but once you're in you'll be able to enjoy the gorgeous visuals and a deep weapon system that complements ground and aerial combat. Argos are currently selling the game around £8 cheaper than anywhere else, so act fast.

Nintendo Closes Project Sora

Project Sora - the studio behind Kid Icarus: Uprising - has been closed, according to the studio's homepage, on which you'll find the following message:

This company was dissolved on June 30th 2012.
We thank you truly for your patronage.
This home page will close on July 31st 2012.

Project Sora

Kotaku translated an interview with Iwata from last year that appeared on the studio's site, suggesting that once work had finished on Kid Icarus: Uprising, the studio would start development on Smash Bros.

Presumably, Sakurai will still be heading up the project under his Sora Ltd. freelancing agency, but most of the development duties will have passed to Namco Bandai.

Kid Icarus: Uprising & Kid Icarus: Of Myths & Monsters | £24.95 | The Hut | 3DS

Kid Icarus: Uprising is superb, and proves that Nintendo are still willing to innovate with their IP. It's a sweet blend of aerial shooting and ground combat, with a huge amount of content, excellent graphics and a weapon system that will keep you coming back for more. Do note that the controls can be a little on the uncomfortable side, though.

The Hut and Zavvi recently brought Kid Icarus down to this price (you're not seeing double), but this latest deal includes an exclusive download code for Kid Icarus: Of Myths And Monsters from the Nintendo eShop. It's a great game that provides and even more value. Thanks to Rhys135 at HotUKDeals.

Kid Icarus Uprising Review | Soaring Return To Form

Platform: 3DS

Developer: Project Sora

Publisher: Nintendo

It's great to see Nintendo taking risks with their IP again after a disappointingly stagnant 2011. We had a taste of their new lust for innovation when Dillon's Rolling Western barrelled onto the eShop last month, but Kid Icarus Uprising is braver still: a totally new portable gaming experience loosely based on a 21 year old platformer. Rather than sticking to age-old tropes, veteran designer Masahiro Sakurai (the man behind Super Smash Bros and Kirby) has gone back to his drawing board to create a fresh and thoroughly modern classic, and one that only fleetingly glances to the past as an homage to a quarter-decade of gaming excellence.

Resurrecting the almost-forgotten Kid Icarus brand was risky. Completely redesigning it was brave. But Uprising demonstrates that fortune always favours the bold. Sakurai dared. And wins.

Without hyperbole, this is the most exciting title to hit the 3DS since launch. Nintendo are back on form... and they mean serious business.

Kid Icarus: Uprising To Support Circle Pad Pro...But Not For Dual Analogue Controls

Creator Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that Kid Icarus: Uprising will feature Circle Pad Pro support, but perhaps not in the way you might think. Instead of using the dual pads to optionally ditch the slightly uncomfortable sing pad and stylus controls, the Circle Pad Pro will instead be used to provide lefties a legitimate control option.

New Kid Icarus: Uprising Trailer Ushers In Dark Pit

There's a new trailer for 3DS title Kid Icarus: Uprising!! Hit the jump below for more shots of Pit dodging, ducking, dipping, diving and dodging his way past enemies. Kid Icarus is looking mightily Panzer Dragoon-ish, which is no bad thing. Medusa, a demon clown and Dark Pit make appearances in this December trailer, and there's a cracking 'That's What She Said' moment at 1:13.
