Lego Rock Band £8.95 @ Zavvi [PS3 Games]

Lego Rock Band £8.95 @ Zavvi [PS3 Games]

Here’s another weekend deal for a mix of rock and roll action combined with the lighthearted humour and good old fashioned fun that comes along with the Lego universe’s take on things.

Zavvi are currently parting with copies of the game on the PS3 for £8.95, which is almost £2 cheaper than the next best offer of £10.89 coming in from Sendit.

If you’ve played Rock Band or Guitar Hero before then the format of the game shouldn’t come as a surprise to you, all you have to do is hit the multicoloured notes as they descend down the screen, or scream out the words to the songs in true karaoke fashion. The only difference is the fact that all the characters and environments are made up of the characteristic building blocks of Lego that we’ve come to know and love. Along with their plastic presence they’ve also brought a nice mix of humour to the game, which we’ve previously seen when they had their go at interpreting both Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

You can choose to take on the role of either lead guitar, drums, bass guitar, or vocals in the single player, or you can invite a few friends round and form a super group, which is by far the best experience that the entire range of music games provides. Unfortunately, the game only supports local multiplayer, so you won’t be able to team up over the internet from the comfort of your own living rooms.

In comparison to some of the other music titles on the market, Lego Rock Band’s set list is fairly limited at 45 tracks, but there are a couple of songs that are quite enticing such as the Ghostbusters theme tune, which should provide you with a nice bit of 80s nostalgia.

Now’s the time to pick up the game, because you’re less likely to be disappointed by its limitations and can enjoy it for the simple bit of fun that it provides.

Lego Rock Band £9.95 @ Zavvi [Wii Games]

Lego Rock Band £9.95 @ Zavvi [Wii Games]

If you want a bit of funky Rock Band action combined with some light-hearted humour and childhood nostalgia, then you’ll definitely enjoy Lego Rock Band.

Zavvi are currently selling copies of the game for £9.95, which is almost £3 cheaper than the next best offer of £12.73 coming in from The Hut.

The game plays exactly like regular Rock Band, the only difference is that the characters and environments are constructed from the geometrically distinctive building blocks of the Lego world, and just like they did with the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises they’ve added a nice dash of comedy to the proceedings.

You’ll be able to form a characteristic four piece band consisting of lead guitar, bass guitar, vocals, and drums, utilising the wide range of musical controllers that are on the market. As with pretty much every music title out there, you’ll be able to sit back and relax whilst playing the single player, but having a few friends round to join in with the action is the thing that’ll keep you coming back to the game time and time again. However, I’ve got to warn you that it’s only got local multiplayer, and the lack of an online multiplayer really does limit the game somewhat.

The set list is comprised of approximately 45 tracks, ranging from classics including ‘We Will Rock You’ to modern hits like ‘Valerie’, and personally I’d fork out a bit of money just to be able to rock out to the Ghostbusters theme tune, which is also present in the game.

Now Lego Rock Band’s under £10 you should easily be able to overlook the relatively short list of songs and lack of online multiplayer, and pick up this friendly little romp into the music world, which certainly doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Lego Rock Band £13.93 @ The Hut [Xbox 360 Games]

Lego Rock Band £13.93 @ The Hut [Xbox 360 Games]They’ve already got their plastic hooks into Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Batman, and now we what do we find? Lego characters head banging in Rock Band. So if you own Rock Band, you can now pick up a copy of Lego Rock Band for £13.93 from The Hut. The price is usually £14.93 but entering the voucher code BANK1 will allow you to knock off an extra quid. Next best price comes in at £15.99 from Amazon.

The reason you’ll need to already own a copy of Rock Band before you buy the lego version is that LRB is not available as a bundle pack. This means that you can’t buy the game with all the accompanying instruments, so this purchase is pretty pointless for anyone who doesn’t have RB. But of course, if you’ve already got Rock Band, then what’s the incentive to but LRB? Well, apart from a fairly eclectic set list which contains some fairly decent rock tracks and the likes of Kung-Fu Fighting and theme from Ghostbusters, all you’re really getting is the cute, Lego-style presentation.Lego Rock Band £13.93 @ The Hut [Xbox 360 Games]

However this is actually done really well, and the outlandish venues, which range from castles to haunted houses to UFOs are arguably better than the background scenes you get in Rock Band. LRB is also far more forgiving than the original. Even when notes are struck way out of time, the game lets you off with a generous margin of error which, along with the visuals, makes the whole thing very accessible for kids. This isn’t a purchase which everyone is going view as worthwhile, but if you have a fetish about Lego and don’t mind paying for some extra tunes when the originals get boring, you’re sure to find the whole thing quite endearing.

LEGO Rock Band (Solus) £15.99 @ Game [PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 Games]

LEGO Rock Band (Solus) £15.99 @ Game [PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 Games]

As the market has now reached saturation point (surely?!) with button-mashing music games for the time being, it’s only natural that their prices should be yo-yoing more than James Bond’s pants. Today we bring news of a drop in price for LEGO Rock Band, the altogether preferable kiddie music option as opposed to Band Hero, which sucked.

Game is having a console-wide sale on the title, with prices on all copies falling to £15.99 which’ll save you around £2 across the board on the nearest competitors.

With a soundtrack geared towards younger gamers, LEGO Rock Band is all about popular songs, more button mashing, and all of the cutesy fun we’ve learned to expect from developers Travellers Tales after successfully taking on Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones. One of the best bits of the game is that there are special challenges along the way as your LEGO musical heroes tour the land that sees your band having to rock out to fight off the odd giant LEGO octopus, or demolish a building or two.

There are other tweaks such as a ‘Super Easy’ difficulty level and an auto-kick drum setting to allow budding John Bonhams to bash the hell out of the pads without having to worry about footwork. Seeing a shirtless LEGO Iggy Pop prance around the stage is a very special thing to behold, and this is a game that oozes charm. To be honest, the soundtrack is a bit hit and miss, and Band Hero is probably the better game for tween-pleasers, but again the big plus for the series is that you can export the entire game’s library onto your hard drive for a small fee. I like the soundtrack and there are a good number of popular songs, but perhaps not quite enough for this title. That said, £16 is still a great price for such a well presented and well crafted game.

Lego Rock Band £17.99 @ DVD.CO.UK [PS3 Games]

Lego Rock Band £17.99 @ DVD.CO.UK [PS3 Games]Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, even, god help us, Harry Potter – they’ve all had their own Lego style spin off. Now it’s the turn of Rockband to be repackaged in an attempt to milk shed loads more cash out of a top selling franchise and served up to hordes of spoilt children like a McDonald’s Happy Meal (or at least, that’s what the cynics would have us believe anyway).

Perhaps there is an element of truth to all the accusations that these Lego adaptations are becoming the whores of the video game’s industry, but then again, who cares? Lego or no Lego, you can still get your hands on 45 new Rockband tracks for £17.99 which isn’t such a bad deal considering the next best price comes in at £24.64.

Lego: Rockband pretty much follows the same principle as all the other Lego titles. It slaps a Lego style veneer over an established brand, and tweaks the content to make it a bit more family orientated. Given that October’s release of Band Hero was a spectacular failure, Lego: Rockband does deserve credit for the fact it’s a lot more fun, but given the fact it’s attempting to appeal to a younger audience, the songs aren’t going to be to everyone’s cup of tea. However there are plenty of classics from artists like Queen, Iggy Pop, Blur, Spinal Tap and Jimmy Hendrix which should be to the liking of even the biggest rock connoisseur.

From Bayonetta’s Perfect Score To Mercury’s Lego Appearance: News Roundup October 21st

Today’s news roundup sees Bayonetta being awarded a perfect score on the Xbox 360 by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Microsoft take their own stab at a rewards program on XBLA, and Lego Rock Band include deceased rock hero Freddie Mercury, in Lego-form of course.

Bayonetta Awarded Perfect Score on 360 by Famitsu, Not So Perfect On PS3

From Bayonettas Perfect Score To Mercurys Lego Appearance: News Roundup October 21st

Famitsu’s review of Bayonetta was extremely favourable.  In fact you actually couldn’t get more favourable with Bayonetta receiving a perfect 40 out of 40 on the Xbox 360, and a slightly lower 38 on the PS3.  Apparently frame-rate issues are to blame for the poorer review on Sony’s machine.

Previews of the game have already been noted as having a slightly murkier appearance on the PS3, with a demo released earlier this month especially highlighting this.  Sega may have been focusing more on the 360 version, leaving Bayonetta a little underwhelming on the PlayStation 3.  Hopefully Sega can correct these issues before the games January release in Japan.  [1UP]

Microsoft Looking Into Their Own XBLA Reward Program

From Bayonettas Perfect Score To Mercurys Lego Appearance: News Roundup October 21st

Xbox Live subscribers may be in with the chance of winning a few prizes, thanks to a Microsoft rewards program.  An e-mail has apparently been sent out to random subscribers, offering them the chance to join an “exclusive pilot rewards program.”  If users register before October 21st (today!) they may be in with a shot of winning some really “cool stuff.”  After the 21st though, “the doors close and someone else gets the cool stuff.

The e-mail is likely to come in waves, so another batch will soon follow in the near future.  The e-mail doesn’t reveal how to win an award, or what an award will be, but the general consensus sees discounts or free Microsoft points as the most likely.  This program sounds vaguely familiar to Sony’s PS Thanks program, itself sounding like Sony’s version of Club Nintendo.  [Kotaku]

Freddie Mercury Reanimated In Lego-Form For New Rock Band

From Bayonettas Perfect Score To Mercurys Lego Appearance: News Roundup October 21st

Lego Rock Band sees release next month, bringing along with it mini Lego figures of Brian May, John Deacon, Roger Taylor, and even Freddie Mercury completing the classic Queen line-up.  The figures will be playable during performances of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.”

An impressive list of Legoized rock stars has made it into the game, including Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and Blur along with Queen.  Following the extreme backlash Guitar Hero 5 received for including deceased grunge-hero Kurt Cobain, it will be interesting to see if Lego Rock Band will receive similar attention for including Mercury.  Then again Freddie doesn’t have Courtney Love on his side.  [1UP]
