It's Monday again, which other than heading off back to work means only one thing. It's time for the IndieGala Every Monday Bundle, this time bringing us 5 Steam titles for only £1.21!
(Steam links and pricing for reference)
It's looking like a fairly decent bundle this week with the obvious standout title focusing towards Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards: Reloaded. The special price for this bundle will end in 24 hours at which point the price will increase.
Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded has been dated for June by original creator Al Lowe and UIG Entertainment, commanding a price tag of £14.99. As an HD remake of Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, expect all-new high resolution artwork and more double entendre than Kenneth Williams could handle.Click here to read more...
Ten more games have successfully been greenlit by Steam's thriving A&R community, and I'm delighted to report that the legendary platformer La-Mulana is finally on its way to the marketplace. You'll also find the brilliantly anarchic DLC Quest, the Leisure Suit Larry remake and American McGee's Akaneiro: Demon Hunters on the list.
Better yet, though, two Kickstarter projects are definitely on their way to Valve's virtual emporium, including the wildly innovative MaK and Dungeon Keeper homage War For The Overworld.Click here for the Greenlight list >>
Al Lowe and Replay Games have secured their $500,000 Kickstarter goal to remake lecherous 1987 adventure game Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards for PC and tablets. Despite being announced in October, it appears that extra capital was needed to help the project reach its smutty potential - and with six days left to go, they'll have a seriously hefty war chest to play with.
So, it appears that Larry will indeed "come again." Lowe's words, not ours. Expect "ultra-high res graphics" and fully-voiced characters from this ground-up remake when it hopefully releases later this year. If successful, Replay plans to give the rest of the series the same treatment.
This was bound to happen sooner or later. Al Lowe, the original creator of the sleazy Leisure Suit Larry series, has teamed up with Replay Games to launch a Kickstarter drive for a Leisure Suit Larry remake. This new version promises to be a "re-imagining" of the original game for PC and tablets, featuring "ultra-high res graphics" and "fully voiced characters."
The original team are all on board, and are seeking $500,000. Whether they deserve it, gamers, is entirely down to you.
However, I feel I should point out that Replay already announced HD Leisure Suit Larry remakes back in October. So... why a Kickstarter? I can only assume that their startup funds aren't enough to do justice to the project.
Replay Games has 'proudly' announced that they've secured the rights to the Leisure Suit Larry series, which (in case you don't know) is a franchise of tasteless and crude adventure games that chronicle the hopelessly lecherous quests of a thoroughly hilarious lounge lizard. And that steadily declined in quality. However, Replay plan to bring Larry into the 21st century by releasing "re-imagined and redesigned" HD versions of the entire catalogue - and will follow them up with entirely new sequels if the initiative is a success. Al Lowe, the original series creator, will be involved in the development process. We've got more details after the break.
We can't wait to see what Larry makes of these enlightened times.Click here to read more...
Leisure Suit Larry is a legend in his own time, appearing in countless (fairly terrible) titles that mixed light adventuring with more innuendo than you can shake a... stick... at. Unfortunately his latest adventure is frankly awful, featuring some broken mechanics and repetitive gameplay that will grate on most gamers. The classic innuendo is also lame and stilted rather than charmingly cheesy. Still, I suppose that gamers looking for buxom, crude shenanigans might get a kick out of this one.
I usually prefer not to judge games until I have played them all the way through. However I somehow make an exception for the “comedy” series Leisure Suit Larry . Those of you who do find constant, incontinent, willy jokes funny are in for a treat as Larry's latest adventure is now available for the budget price of £6.76 from Amazon. This is a decent saving of over £3 as the next best price is £9.99.
Larry Lovage is called upon by his uncle, the original “Leisure Suit Larry”, to work at his film studios, hunting out a mole in between acting as a general skivvy. The game features sandbox gameplay with a number of different modes of play: puzzles, racing, exploration and platforming amongst others. Do not assume that this makes for a varied and interesting time though noble reader! According to Gamespot, gameplay is “mindless” and “repetitive” and they could only find it within themselves to offer the game a dismal 2.5 out of 10. This is generous compared to some of the reviews I have seen: the words “worst game ever” seem to spring up a lot.
Examples I have seen of dialogue from the game are dreadful, sadly not of the “so bad it's good” variety but “so bad it's excruciating”. Offensive does not automatically equal “clever and edgy”, sometimes it's just stupid and unpleasant. The graphics are ugly and the controls apparently awful, in fact to cut a long story short I have so far seen nothing to recommend about this title.
Despite my instinct to avoid Larry's adventures like Margaret Thatcher with rabies, any game that is universally panned the way that Box Office Bust has been, somehow piques my interest. Maybe one of my friends will think it worth buying and I can give it a go then walk away with the smug weight of nearly £7 in my wallet.
