From Nintendo’s Connection Ambassador To Lost Planet 2 On PSN: News Roundup September 17th

Nintendo Introduce Connection Ambassador Program To Europe

Nintendo has decided to reward loyal European customers with a new “Connection Ambassador” incentive.  Starting from October, Nintendo will be encouraging Wii users to help connect their family and friends.  Every Wii owner helped grants the “ambassador” and the friend or family member 500 Wii points.  Upon connecting 10 people the “Connection master Gold Status” is awarded, allowing the ambassador access to all first party NES games on the virtual console for free.

“Connection Master Platinum” can be reached after 20 connections are made, including all first-party and third-party NES, SNES and N64 games on the Virtual console.  Every connection made also racks up the points awarded, so anyone managing the maximum 20 people helped will have 10,000 Wii points at their disposal.  At the moment this program is exclusive to Europe, but with enough time and pestering it will probably see a worldwide release.  [Computer&Videogames]

Game Retailers Boycott PSPGo

From Nintendos Connection Ambassador To Lost Planet 2 On PSN: News Roundup September 17th

The PSPGo is set for release early next month, but not everyone is ready to embrace it.  The PSPGo places a strong focus on digital distribution, meaning no physical games can be sold with the machine.  Nedgame are currently the largest videogame outlet in Holland and have cited this as the reason they won’t be stocking the PSPGo.

Game sales make up the majority of profits for game retailers, so a gaming device that can’t provide that is rather undesirable.  Nedgame also believe the price point to be far too high at 249.99 euro.  Other gaming stores have reportedly taken similar action in Holland and Spain.  Retailers may end up regretting their decision if the PSPGo proves to the major success Sony believes it will be.  Hopefully we’ll know more by release on October 1st.  [Eurogamer]

Shadow Complex Cheaters Face Reset Gamerscore

From Nintendos Connection Ambassador To Lost Planet 2 On PSN: News Roundup September 17th

Shadow complex, like any game, has seen its fair share of cheaters.  Chair has announced their plan to clamp down on cheaters, focusing specifically on those using cheating as a method to boost leaderboard scores.

Those caught in the act will be removed from the leaderboard, resulting in an investigation by Microsoft, potentially leading to their entire gamerscore being reset.  Player facing this punishment will forever be known as a “cheater” on their gamer profile, further rubbing salt into the wound.  [1UP]

Lost Planet 2 Demo Arriving On PSN

From Nintendos Connection Ambassador To Lost Planet 2 On PSN: News Roundup September 17th

After a long wait PlayStation 3 owners finally get the chance to try out Lost Planet 2 for themselves.  Capcom has revealed the demo will be available next week on PSN.  The PS3 version will be similar to the Xbox 360 demo, but Capcom has thrown a little extra in to make up for the long wait.

Beginning September 24, PS3 owners will not only be able to engage in the frantic battle against the enormous G-Type Akrid, the boss Akrid of the Episode 1, but will also get the exclusive experience of two additional missions in an online co-operative extermination of the Akrid of E.D.N. III,” said Capcom public relations manager Brian Keltner.  Lost Planet 2 should be hitting the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in 2010.  [U.S.PlayStationBlog]

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition £6.99 @ HMV [XBOX 360 Game]

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition £6.99 @ HMV [XBOX 360 Game]

If you love fast paced action games with mad killer aliens and enough guns to rival Arnold Schwarzenegger, then Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is definitely a must have addition to your Xbox 360 collection. The game is  currently being offered on the HMV website for just £6.99. That’s a great price considering the next best offer according to price comparison is from Coolshop at £16.99. (The game was being offered by Play.com for £7.99; however they are now out of stock – so it might be a good idea to get in quick with this one!)

In essence Lost Planet is a sort of cross between Halo and Starship Troopers. The story takes place on the freezing ice laden surface of some hell – hole planet where humankind stands on the brink of extinction. Locked in a vicious struggle with the indigenous Akrids over thermal energy, humans are fighting for survival while snow pirates – clad in huge mechanical VS suits – indiscriminately roam the hostile wilderness.

The player takes control of a VS navigator called Wayne who, after a run in with a horde of Akrid aliens, is injured and loses his memory. The story follows Wayne’s quest to unravel his past, to discover who is behind a deadly plot to destroy humankind, and pretty much kick the crap out of anyone who gets in his way.

As previously mentioned the game owes a lot to Halo. The player can only carry two weapons at a time and is protected by a similar sort of energy shield. However one of the best thing about Lost Planet is the ability to gear up in a VS (Virtual Suit) which is almost like one of those power loaders from Aliens or a transformer. The suits are strapped with an array of mega weapons including gatling guns, homing missiles, lasers, rocket launchers and high powered mage shot guns.

Although the levels are short, they are packed with hordes of enemies who are really fun to take down with this sort of firepower. Like Starship Troopers the waves of Akrids can seem endless. One minute you’ll be running across the surface taking down dozens of the blighters and the next you’ll be falling down a crevasse and have to face about fifty more.

So gameplay is intense and the graphics are not half bad either. According to many of the reviews on Amazon the game is a real treat for the eyes. So if like me you’ve been hesitating over Lost Planet and were reluctant to gamble £20 in case it was rubbish, rest assured it’s a really decent game (and for £6.99 you definitely can’t go wrong!)
