Medal Of Honor: Warfighter gunned down to £1.75 on PC

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter now only £1.75 at Tesco Direct. Click here to get it! >>

Tesco seem to be getting rid of some PC surplus over the weekend, including Medal Of Honor: Warfighter for an insanely cheap £1.75. Though I chastised this incredibly unambitious shooter in my Medal of Honor: Warfighter Review, much is forgiven at this price, but I can't personally vouch for whether it still has a functional multiplayer community.

Still, PC games tend to retain their player bases far longer than the console versions. And again, this is an incredibly cheap PC deal so long as you click and collect. Thanks to ABrune @ HUKD!

EDITORIAL | A Note On Previews

It's a difficult thing when you realise that you've been played, but that's a feeling that critics and consumers alike have been dealing with this past week. We were led to believe certain things about Aliens: Colonial Marines, shown screenshots, watched video, played demos, and run previews of material that simply wasn't up to scratch in the final game, or worse still, didn't exist.

Jonathan issued an apology at the end of his review the other day that went as follows:

I can only apologise for how long it took to get this review on-site and how useless it will be to many of you who bought the game at launch. SEGA only sent us review materials several days after Colonial Marines released, which is rather suggestive in and of itself.

I also feel responsible for anyone who pre-ordered Colonial Marines on the strength of my hands-off preview, which as it turns out, was based on a made-to-order demo build that doesn't resemble the final product in any meaningful way. Many of my peers have already weighed in on this reprehensible bait & switch, but frankly, any of my feelings of betrayal will pale in comparison to paying customers and loyal fans.

I'd like to add my voice to that, along with a few words on how the 'system' operates currently, along with a few points on how we'll be  dealing with previews going forward.

Everything these days is geared towards encouraging consumers to make a commitment before a game shows its face. Pre-orders have become everything - encouraging gamers to make a financial commitment ahead of release, and driving that decision with trinkets and treasures that would normally perhaps have been unlockable prizes just a few years previously, but now tend to exist as day one DLC for those who had the strength of mind to be rather more conscientious with their money. That'll teach 'em.

EDITORIAL | A Note On Previews

Only this week, pre-order listings emerged for the Bioshock Infinite Season Pass - essentially a pre-order for a pre-order for multiple blocks of downloadable content that are completely unseen and have yet to even be announced. We're pre-ordering pre-orders now. How did it come to this?

Medal Of Honor Franchise "Taken Out Of Rotation"

EA "Launching A New Battlefield Game Next Year"

As part of their latest financial postings, EA announced that the Medal Of Honor franchise has been dishonourably discharged from their active roster, following Warfighter's poor performance. This could potentially make room for a new Battlefield title, if not a debut from Respawn Entertainment.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter | £22.99 | Game | PS3 / 360

Regardless of the 'meh' review scores we know this will still be on many gamers Xmas wishlists, so Game's £22.99 price is a solid deal and much cheaper than the other big sites. The bugs and glitches that didn't help the review scores have been patched up since release and make the game much better to play. Even so, we'd recommend Far Cry 3 and Black Ops II ahead of this all day long.

Game Buzz | Episode 8 - Back to Los Santos

All of the juicy news came in late this week. First there was the Game Informer GTA V reveal, which we discuss extensively. The Silicon Knights' lawsuit against Epic finally received a ruling, and it backfired upon Denis Dyack spectacularly. We recorded and uploaded just before the reports came in about the final, doubled fee levelled at SK, but you can read all about that here.

Elsewhere, we touch upon Medal of Honor: Warfighter's continuing bad press, and take a peek at Braben's Elite: Dangerous, and ask if it can stand up to the impressive pitch from Chris Roberts and Star Citizen, and if it even needs to.

Navy SEALs Reprimanded For Helping With MoH: Warfighter Development

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter never felt like an authentic representation of modern warfare (thanks in part to awful AI and constant railroading), but it wasn't for want of trying. Seven Navy SEALs have ostensibly been punished for helping with development by revealing classified information, which breaks the unit's unofficial code of silence.

One of whom was apparently on the team that killed Osama Bin Laden.

MOH: Warfighter Video Flies Over Zero Dark Thirty Maps

Ah Medal of Honor: Warfighter. We could have been great together, you and I. But alas, it was not to be. Mainly because you were clearly rushed, had a woefully insipid singleplayer mode, and arrived horribly broken.

Still, maybe new DLC will help mend our relationship. The Zero Dark Thirty Map Pack is out this winter, and EA have very kindly delivered a flyover video to let you all know what's in store. It'll be free for any mug eager gamer who purchased the Limited or Deluxe Editions, and has apparently been inspired by a “decade-long manhunt” in some of the world’s most dangerous places: Darra Gun Market and Chitral Compound.

Game Buzz | Episode 7 - Alleged Duplicity

Oh Silicon Knights, what have you done?! This week Jon and I take a look at the rumoured duplicity of Mr. Dyack when it came to X-Men Destiny, we discuss EA's "disappointment" at Medal of Honor: Warfighter and ruminate on those "mock reviews", and we ask what Sony can do to pull the Vita out of the depressing slump in which it appears to have found itself.

We also review the new Silent Hill film. Short Version: It's really, really bad.

EA "Disappointed" Over MOH: Warfighter Critical Reception, "Mock Reviews" Suggested Better Quality

In spite of a massive day one patch, every reviewer in the industry not receiving code until the last minute directly before launch, no preview material at all in the run up to release for the singleplayer component, and innumerable other warning signs, EA were apparently "disappointed" by the critical reaction to Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

It's almost as if they didn't know.

Well as it happens, they didn't! According to yesterday's investor call, the business head honchos had been reassured through "internal testing and mock reviews" that everything was going to be just fine.

Serious Sam Publisher Slams MoH Warfighter: "That Sh*t Is Weak"

UK Games Charts | 27th October 2012

EA's decision to withhold review copies until the day before launch seems to have paid off, since the incredibly mediocre Medal Of Honor: Warfighter has unseated FIFA 13 to take this week's top spot on the strength of its pre-orders. It's also the fastest week-one seller in the entire MoH series, according to UKIE. Flashy trailers seem to count for a lot, which expertly hide the mess of glitches, gameplay issues and dearth of imagination inherent in EA's annual shooter offering. You can read our take on it in our 5/10 Medal Of Honor: Warfighter review.

Game Buzz | Episode 6: Danger Close

This week is all about Gangnam Style again! Just joking...for episode six it's mainly about the first big drop in this year's FPS battle for supremacy. EA's Medal of Honor: Warfighter launch week has been anything but smooth, and we rip apart the mountain of gaffes, not to mention the game itself. Elsewhere, Carl details his holiday in Planetside 2, we grumble a little bit about Dragon Age III, and have a nervous giggle at some rather epic corporate trolling.

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter Review | Dishonourable Discharge?

Platforms: PC | PS3 | Xbox 360 (reviewed)

Developer: Danger Close Games

Publisher: EA

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter is a lot of fun in multiplayer.

It's not particularly innovative by any stretch of the imagination, nor consistent in terms of quality. Despite a massively embarrassing day zero patch, weapon damage feels inconsistent to a fault, clipping is rife, some of the Killstreaks feel notably unbalanced and the customisation menus become a nightmarish labyrinth designed to perplex and frustrate the player at every turn. Though the PC version might look rather pretty (we literally have no idea since we only received an Xbox 360 review copy - look out for a separate review or graphical comparison soon), consoles bring Frostbite 2.0 down to a decent-yet-uninspiring new low. Lacking the epic scale of Battlefield 3 and the hectic insanity of Call Of Duty, it's easy to suggest that Warfighter's multiplayer occupies an awkward and unnecessary middle ground.

However, thanks to the new focus on cooperative Fire Teams, Danger Close have managed to make the middle ground a bona fide playground for power couples.

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter Singleplayer Launch Trailer

Perhaps in an effort to distract us from the massive number of multiplayer issues highlighted by the day zero patch, Danger Close has released a singleplayer launch trailer for Medal Of Honor: Warfighter. Within, you'll see some tough guys doing totally manly things, to the extreme. Such as driving away from big explosions and smacking tangos to death with their epic Tier One Operator beards [that last one might be a lie - Ed].

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter Day One Patch Highlights Ridiculous Launch Issues

Somehow, Medal Of Honor: Warfighter has passed both Sony and Microsoft certification with a huge number of bugs and glitches. To combat this, EA will be releasing a Day One patch (already available in the States, while reviews still haven't been published... danger?) that fixes what can only be described as an truly embarrassing shedload of issues.

So, basically, be sure to download it. We've got the hefty changelog below.

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter will be breaching and clearing its way onto PC and consoles next week, boasting a suite of multiplayer modes that encourage teamwork and buddying up. Players can choose from a wide range of real-world special forces troopers (including the Polish GROM, American OSA and of course the SAS), each of which packs different weapons, equipment and combat roles.

To celebrate, have a launch trailer. Danger Close's latest effort certainly looks shiny and plays well in previews, but we'll have a full review for you soon.

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter Screenshots Promise "The Best FPS Engine Out There"

EA have released three new screenshots for Medal Of Honor: Warfighter, which demonstrate the power of the Frostbite 2.0 engine in action. The accompanying blog post goes as far to state that "the best FPS engine out there," promising "an extreme level of detail" and "fleshed out scenery." You can be the judge of that after the break.

If our latest hands-on preview is anything to go by, Danger Close's FPS effort definitely is looking sensational - and playing rather nicely too.

MoH: Warfighter is out on October 26th in the UK.

Why is Darren Bent in a promotional video for Medal of Honor: Warfighter? Well, we're not entirely sure. The latest trailer for Danger Close Games' authentic military FPS is a bit contrived to be frank, essentially showing the best way of silently neutralising people having a little kickabout in the park.

Jumpers for goalposts and stealthy assassinations? Oh, go on then.
