This week's Game Buzz sees us take a gander at Nintendo's new new 3DS and attempt to understand its confusing branding and odd design choices, Jon explains in fowl detail how to chat up birds, I forget how to use words in describing Bayonetta 2's bonkers magnificence, we choose our favourite Batman film (and talk about Arkham Knight), and Carl might finally be about to buy a new-gen console.

Sod The Console Wars, Let's Talk Zelda - Game Buzz #85

This week on Game Buzz, we chat about the recent reports suggesting a 3-1 PlayStation lead over Xbox in the last quarter and ask what Microsoft can do to turn things around. We also have a natter about EA Access and the likelihood of other publishers coming out with subscription models. But all of that is fairly dry, so it's not long before we find an excuse to talk about how awesome the Zelda games are.

Additionally, there's a spot of further recruiting for My Little Dealspwny - the only Destiny clan you'll ever need.

Crowdfunding and Corruption - Game Buzz #84

This week on Game Buzz, we turn our attention to some rather serious topics. First up, we chat about the misadventures of Yogventures, and the cool half million down the drain from the ill-fated Yogscast Kickstarter game. Then we have a rather length natter about the ethics of YouTubers taking money from developers and whether or not there really is all that much difference between reviewers and an opinionated Let's Play aficionado when it comes down to influencing an audience and the ethics of responsibility.

Also on this week's podcast, we chat about Microsoft's plans to dissolve Xbox Entertainment, and check in with Star Citizen as the funding push almost hits $50 million.

Who Won E3 2014? – The Press Conferences | Game Buzz Extra

Well the press conferences (and one pre-recorded Nintendo Direct) have come and gone, and in this special edition of Game Buzz, we pick apart the showing from all five big cheeses at this year's E3, and give a little insight into some of our personal highlights of the show thus far.

We'll nominate our winners and losers of the show thus far, before dropping the answer to the biggest and most redundant question of them all -- who won E3 2014?

Game Buzz | Episode 79 - Who Will Win E3 2014?

E3 is almost upon us. Across Monday and Tuesday we'll be bombarded with sublime rhetoric and a dazzling array of shiny images as the biggest names in the business wheel out their biggest guns.

Naturally, we're asking the least most important question of all: Who's going to win?

That's right, folks. We weigh up the chances of Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Sony, and Nintendo and chat about what we reckon we'll be seeing from all five, and what each of them need to do to blow us away. Then we transform into tentacular psychic octopuses and whip out our crystal balls and shit gets real.

Let's do this!

Get hyped peeps. Half-Life 3 is coming. It's been confirmed! Someone who used to work at Valve may have seen some concept art. True, it might have been a stick man with glasses and a beard next to a telling hashtag drawn by a sozzled Gabe Newell at the office party, but it could also be totes legit!

Why aren't you more HYPED?!

Anyway, with Carl away on business, things go a little bit awry. We do eventually get round to chatting about Halo 5 and Far Cry 4 and dishing out a Challenge for our Wolverhampton wonder, but things get weird rather quickly.

PS4 vs Xbox One: A Totally Scientific And Impartial Six-Month Showdown Podcast

2014 Half Time, Games consoles, Next-gen, Podcast, PS4, Xbox One

It's been six months since the PS4 and Xbox One launched, and it seems like a good point to take stock of the first half-year and see if it's worth buying a next-gen/new-gen console any more than it was back in November last year.

In many ways, it still feels right to call the PS4 and Xbox One "next-gen" consoles. After all, it doesn't exactly feel as though the new black boxes of gaming entertainment have quite hit their sides, nor that developers (especially third-party outfits) are giving the more powerful pieces of kit the attention that they perhaps deserve. But nonetheless, they have been flying off of the shelves since their winter launches, and there have been plenty of gamers delighted with their day one purchases.

But what of the rest of you? Still uncertain about making that leap? Don't know which console is actually the better proposition after six months of updates and new services, and key game releases? We fret not, because that's what we're here for. In the name of science, we've conducted a clinically impartial podcast of awesomeness to sort this out once and for all, and to inform you of the best possible choice you can make should you be thinking about buying a new console right now.

For science, then! And shits and giggles.

As per usual, we also determine our winners and losers of the week, and deliver Carl his second challenge for the coming week's Challenge Carl. Keep those suggestions coming, folks!

NB. For some reason our FTP isn't working today, so we've only got the YT embed at present. Looking to rectify this ASAP.

PODCAST | Has Microsoft killed Kinect... and do we even care?

It's emergency podcast time! Microsoft, having just announced that they're to unbundle the Kinect camera from the Xbox One in an upcoming console package, are put under the microscope of scrutiny in today's discussion.

We ask if Microsoft has shot itself in the foot with the latest u-turn, we ponder over just how much of a slap in the face this is for early adopters, we wonder if the last year has been an enormous waste of time and money, and we think upon the price cut this will no doubt mean for the camera-less option and see how it might fare up against the PS4 going forwards.

Has Microsoft done the right thing? Will this allow the Redmond company to just focus on the games in the near future with E3 around the corner? Are you happy about this as a consumer or disappointed that MS didn't stick to its guns and lied through their teeth for the past year?

Is this the end of Kinect? Do we give a badger's chestnut either way? Hit play to listen to us chat excitably about all of this and more in today's emergency podcast!

Jon and I have been playing a fair few 4X games of late, and so we decided to have a little recorded chat about the state of the genre, why it seems to be coming back in such a big way lately, and why so many of those games are actually falling rather short.

Endless Space has been a bright beacon in recent memory, but even that game had its faults. We're seeing a number of games such as Drox Operative and The Last Federation incorporate 4X elements into hybrid setups, but is that the answer? And how is it that so many of these games are emerging, lacking a universe boasting any sort of distinctive personality or flavour?

Over the course of half an hour, we hope to root out a few answers. Let us know what you make of it all in the comments below!

The winner of the week is pretty obvious. After we've castigated them for sitting on their laurels, twiddling their thumbs, and generally being pretty inept, Nintendo come out swinging with a fat video presentation and one of the best deal packages we've seen. As such, it's only right that we give them some applause on this week's Game Buzz. Elsewhere, we chat about Driveclub and its glorified demo, we get stuck into Kevin Spacey bringing a bit of quality excitement back to Call of Duty, and *NEW SEGMENT ALERT* we introduce Challenge Carl -- a new weekly vid series that'll see our resident video hero put to the test on a weekly basis.

The Elder Scrolls Online Podcast | An Opportunity Missed

Dealspwn's resident MMO guru, the honey-voiced Mr. Carl Phillips, and I sit down for a little natter about The Elder Scrolls Online now that our review is live. Here's a TL:DR version for you to get the gist of things:

The Elder Scrolls Online is a brave attempt at combining two seemingly polar opposites, but it ultimately fails to build a continuously compelling world, compromising too much on either side. It's an MMO that can't hold a candle to likes of Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World, and an Elder Scrolls game that can't hope to be as deep and rich in content and solo experience as Morrowind and Skyrim. The allure of an online Tamriel is strong, and when the game's disparate parts align, it really is a bit special, but those moments are too few and far between to recommend for a game with this much of an inflated price point.

If you haven't read the whole thing yet, save the remorseful flagellation for later, pour yourself a nice cuppa and have a read whilst listening to the dulcet tones of our voices discussing the nature of ZeniMax Online's ambitious MMO... and where it all went wrong.
