Prototype Franchise Bundle | £19.99 | Impulse Driven | PC

An interesting bundle has emerged from Impulse Driven, providing both Prototype games in one bundle. Considering you also get the RADNET Edition extras as well, it makes this deal the best price to grab everything in one go.

Although both titles were filled with visually pleasing action that handled very well, the lack of any likable personality in either game makes it even harder to hide the repetitive nature of both instalments. Still, at this price it could be worth give the series a go, especially if you are looking for something cathartic.

Prototype 2 | £11.99 | Simply Games | PC

Prototype 2 may not be perfect, but it's definitely cathartic. Matt frequently uses the freeform murder sandbox to unwind after a long day, and PC owners can now grab it with a low price from Simply Games. However: be aware that you won't get a physical copy, rather, you'll receive a CD/serial key that can be redeemed on Steam.

Prototype 2: Radnet Edition | £20.12 | GAME | Xbox 360

GAME are running a festive Olympic/Jubilee deal for Prototype 2's Radnet edition, which will save you about £4 on the Xbox 360 version. Note that the standard version is 13p cheaper at Sainsbury's Entertainment, but you might as well get the extra stuff.

PS3 owners, however, can still use The Game Collection's £19.95 price - as found by Syzable at HotUKDeals a few weeks ago.

Prototype | £4.99 | Game | PC

Prototype definitely has it's ups and downs! I found myself skipping through the cutscenes as quickly as possible because I lost all interest in Alex Mercer and his story almost immediately, however the gameplay's great fun as you use your powers to dispatch your foes and zip around the city. Game are parting with PC copies of the game for £4.99, which should make you a saving of £3 on the next best offers out there. Thanks to Syzable @ HUKD.

Prototype 2 Review | Going Viral

Platforms: PC | PS3 | Xbox 360 (reviewed)

Developer: Radical Entertainment

Publisher: Activision

Was Alex Mercer the Most Boring Protagonist? Probably, but that didn't stop Prototype being an enjoyable, murderous romp - a sandbox filled with biomechanical toys, all the better for impaling, strangling, slicing, dicing, smashing, and bashing people around you, and enjoying their genetic code for breakfast, lunch, and dinner . You could scale skyscrapers in a few leaps and bounds, you could lasso tanks with tentacular appendages, you could karate kick helicopters out of the sky!

The fact that Alex Mercer had about as much personality as a soggy water biscuit really didn't matter. It was what he could do, not who he was that made Radical's original so enjoyable...in short bursts. It was a flawed title in a number of ways, glorious empowering but fiddly in execution, and repetitive to the extreme. There was a constant sense of chaos but you never quite had the right tools to master said madness, and combat could be just as frustrating as it could be exhilarating - the defensive options poorly designed in comparison to their offensive counterpart.

Prototype 2 Review | Going Viral

Prototype 2 doesn't quite fix everything, and it still might not be a terrific prospect for extended play, but just like Square did with Final Fantasy XIII-2 earlier this year, it's clear that Radical have listened carefully to fan feedback. Make no mistake, this is the game that Prototype really ought to have been.

Prototype 2 Trailer Shows Us Whips & Hammers

If only real viruses were this cool. Rather than getting the runs and a nasty dose of the sniffles, Prototype 2's James Heller can use his infection to manifest destructive blades, whips and hammers and bring carnage to the streets of New York Zero in his quest to find and destroy Alex Mercer. This latest all-gameplay trailer gives us a look at the whip and hammer weapon in action, as well as some early inspiration of how to use them in the most gratuitous ways possible.

Prototype 2 is out tomorrow on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Prototype 2: Live Action & Pack Leader Trailers
We've got a double dose of Prototype 2 trailers for your attention this afternoon, the first of which is a moody live action affair entitled 'The Power Of Revenge.' Its fellow, conversely, is an in-depth developer diary that explains how Heller will be able to summon and control Brawlers like a disgusting, infected Cesar Milan.

Prototype | £4.99 | Game | PC

Running up the side of buildings to jump off the top of them and glide around the city is pretty good fun, but not quite as much fun as absorbing people and assuming their identities, which is exactly what Alex Mercer can do after he's infected with an unusual virus. Unfortunately the missions can get a little bit repetitive and the graphics aren't the best out there. Game are parting with PC copies of the game for £4.99, which should save you £3 on the next best offer. Thanks to aDrySandwich @ HUKD.

New Prototype 2 Trailer Gives Us Eleven Reasons To Buy It

Radical Entertainment don't want to give us a reason to buy Prototype 2 when it releases this April. Rather, they want to give us eleven. This new trailer shows us nearly a dozen brutal, ultraviolent and satisfying things that we can expect from the open-world slaughter sandbox, as well as the devasting Warp Vortex power that will be included in a launch DLC pack.

Prototype 2 Screenshots Go Big On Tanks vs. Choppers

Radical has infected us with a new clutch of Prototype 2 screenshots that show off some of the heavy artillery that will be making Heller's life a living hell in the Red Zone... and will be oh so ripe for hijack. Feast your eyes on Heller pummelling massive tanks and commandeering them for his own purposes.

To be honest, we're excited by the notion of batting a helicopter out of the air with a tank like a 67 ton flyswatter.

Radical Entertainment plan to build on Prototype's success with an ultraviolent sequel that features improved mechanics, more freeform rampages and a protagonist worth caring about. Prototype may be set for an April release, but if you want to get in early, Sainsbury's Entertainment have an astoundingly cheap pre-order price that already breaks the £30 barrier.

UPDATE: This must have been a misprice. Hopefully Sainsbury's Entertainment will honour it.

Prototype 2 Dev Diary Instructs Us To Hunt, Kill, Become

We've not heard a huge deal about exactly how the side missions will work in Prototype 2, although we were assured a while back that they'd tie into Heller's character and the general storyline far more than those of the rather scattered and random challenges seen in the first title. This five minute dev diary goes some way to explaining how things will work in the sequel.

Prototype 2 launches on April 24th for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Prototype 2 Developer Demo Preview | Punching Choppers Out Of The Sky

Choice in games is a good thing. Being able to decide not to rip innocent bystanders to pieces with your tentacles, or choose not to turn them into linguine before absorbing them into your body after kerb stomping them or surfing their shock-stricken bodies down the street, being able to choose not to do that is quite a big thing. 'We really listened to the community after Prototype released,' says Radical's studio head Ken Rosman, 'and interestingly one of the things that stood out was people asking "Why can't I just put this guy down?" We wanted to have you kicking ass, but we also wanted to give you more of a choice.' It's a nice touch, and one that makes a lot of sense considering that civilians no longer restore your health.

But it doesn't end there. We were a little worried, after seeing the game just before E3, that there really wouldn't be much of a change-up between the core gameplay of the two games. But it would seem that Radical are taking a healthy approach to this side of things too: leaving the open-ended gameplay, fine tuning the combat mechanics, adding in more cool ways to take down military vehicles and streamlining the interface to allow for choice on the fly.

New Prototype 2 Trailer Unleashed

The first Prototype was just that; a promising if flawed tease of what Radical's vision could evolve into. We're hoping Prototype 2 can move beyond mere promise, however, and deliver on its potential with as much gore and glee as possible. The sequel is shaping up quite nicely, as evidenced in this new trailer unleashed by Activision, showcasing James Heller's all new tendril powers.
