rock band 3 deal

Here’s another music based deal for the Wii owners out there, with this time HMV offering the latest instalment of the Rock Band series for a tenner. It means that you can save yourself a just under a fiver in comparison to the next cheapest deal over at The Hut and Zavvi. It’s a great deal if you already have a full set up of the peripherals in your possession, as you will get over 80 songs with the release, which for the price of admission is a pretty good trade to extend your library of the usual colour matching music antics. Thanks to goonertillidie @ HUKD!

Music games are great for a lazy weekend when you just want to chill out with a couple of friends and some ice cold beers, so why not head on over to ShopTo and grab a copy of Rock Band 3 for £17.86, which'll save you almost £7 on the next best offer from Zavvi. The song list is a fairly decent size and includes tracks like "Du Hast" by Rammstein, "No One Knows" by Queens Of The Stone Age, "Rock Lobster" by The B-52s, and the epic that is "Free Bird" by Lynryd Skynyrd. Rock Band 3 Microphone

If your band's missing its final member because of a lack of hardware, then why not grab a microphone so you can have somebody belt out lyrics, or wail them like a cat on a fence, whilst you're shredding solos on the guitar. The microphone simply plugs into the Wii's USB slot and has a three meter cable, so you shouldn't have to be restricted to where you sit in your living room in order to play. Its also compatible with Rock Band, Rock Band 2, The Beatles Rock Band, Green Day Rock Band, and of course for a bit of light hearted musical mayhem Lego: Rock Band.

Best Video Game Awards 2010 | Music/Rhythm

Sales suggest that the music/rhythm genre has been dying a slow and painful death over the past year or so, but that didn't stop 2010 from producing some of the finest exponents of the genre yet. Activision released arguably the best Guitar Hero since GH3, Rock Band 3 broke down the wall between gaming and being that guy at the party, and Def Jam Rapstar finally proved that it was possible to do hip-hop oriented karaoke without being a wild inaccurate pile of rubbish.

And then there was the dancing. You can refresh yourselves with one of the videos after the jump. I fear they'll be burned into my memory (and YouTube) for many many years to come.

Video Game New Releases: October 25th – 31st

Big hitters are starting to emerge from their developmental cocoons of late, and the trend continues this week too. Star Wars fans can rejoice as The Force Unleashed 2 hits shelves, THQ are back with their long running wrestling series, The Sims 3 finally comes to consoles, Scribblenauts gets a sequel that actually separates out the movement and interaction buttons (thank god!) and the polarising Deadly Premonition hits UK shores at last.

NB. As merchant calendars are often devoured by gigantic time-travelling dinosaurs, dates are often subject to change.

Capcom: Dante Controversy Was Planned

It's amazing how defensive fans can get about visual changes to their favourite characters. Sucker Punch fans got all riled up over Cole's inFamous makeover earlier this year, but that's nothing compared to the backlash Ninja Theory has been receiving over the new edgy emo Dante who'll be fronting their DMC prequel. Don't hate on the studio, though, because Capcom exec Christian Svensson has explained that Ninja Theory were forced into the redesign by orders from the top in order to be more outlandish and create greater visibility for the IP. Nice one, Inafune.

The original concepts that came back for Dante were actually extremely close to the Dante everyone knows and loves. The feedback that came back from [Keiji] Inafune and [Hideaki] Itsuno was, ‘No guys, this needs to be completely different, we need you to go much further and be much more creative.

Svensson continued to state that the redesign was actually part of a plan to create a storm of controversy and hence whip up publicity for the title.

To be fair, I think some of the strategy here was to create that discussion and dialogue, and I think it drastically raises the visibility of the title versus if we had just done another Dante. - Christian Svensson

Well, we played right into that one. Let's leave Ninja Theory alone and judge DMC on its own merits. [IGN]

Harmonix Unveils Rock Band 3 Peripheral Prices

rb3 logoMany pundits and analysts have foretold the death of the peripheral music game as we know it, with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock clocking in at a measly 88 thousand sales. Harmonix are about to fly squarely in the face of that trend, however, with a massive lineup of pricey plastic implements. Here's the damage!

  • Rock Band Wireless Keyboard with Rock Band 3 software included - £109.99 (Xbox 360/PS3) and £99.99 (Wii)
  • Rock Band 3 Wireless Fender Mustang PRO-GUITAR Controller - £124.99
  • Guitar, mic and keyboard stands - £24.99 each
  • Rock Band Wireless Keyboard - £69.99
  • Rock Band 3 Wireless PRO-DRUM and PRO-CYMBALS Kit - £119.99
  • Other guitars including bass - £59.99 to £84.99
  • Rock Band 3 MIDI PRO-ADAPTER - £34.99
  • Rock Band 3 Microphone - £24.99

Yikes! Don't worry, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for the best deals once the October 29th release date rolls around. [MCV]

Windows Phone 7 Launches Today In UK

windows phone 7 old manWe were impressed by the Windows  Phone 7firmware (as well as a solid port of XBLA gem Rocket Riot) at this year's Gamescom, as it successfully blended simple intuitive features with a decent games lineup. Today marks the UK launch of Microsoft's foray into the mobile market... but good luck finding a handset. Both online and high street retailers are still being extremely cagey about selling the new phone, including official UK partner Orange who are only paying lip service to a single HTC platform.

We suspect that there'll be a media storm over the next few days.

Ratings Reveal Marvel Pinball

pinball

A new listing on the Australian Ratings Board has revealed the existence of Marvel Pinball, a Marvel Comics-themed pinball title from Hungarian Developer Zen Studios.

Details are still thin on the ground- in fact, all we know is the name, developer and the fact that it's "multiplatform". However, considering Zen Studio's modus operandi, we can safely assume that it'll debut on PSN and XBLA. We'll tell you more as we hear it.

Train Your Brain With Kawashima and Kinect

kinect brain training

Kinect is on course to train our bodies into perfect shape thanks to a slew of physical titles and the raw physicality of the peripheral itself... but now (like an Eastern martial arts mantra), it will also train our minds. Dr. Kawashima will be bringing the fantastically-successful Brain Training franchise to the Xbox 360, using Kinect to provide fast  muscle-memory inputs.

Translated as Respond With Your Body: New Brain Training, this new title will require up to four gamers to use body movements to engage in addictive little minigames (including a cheeky little Pac-Man homage). It'll be a Kinect launch title in Japan, and we'll certainly be able to learn more about the specifics at this year's Tokyo Game Show. [Spotted and translated by Andriasang]

Enjoy the trailer for a first look at New Brain Training in action... and some sinister footage of a poor guinea pig being rigged up to the Matrix.

The Last Guardian & Suda51/Mikami Project Confirmed for TGS

Last guardian

The Last Guardian (Team ICO's latest heartwarming and doubtlessly eventually heartbreaking title) was suspiciously absent at this year's Penny Arcade Expo- but it has been confirmed for an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show next week. Hopefully we'll be on course for a new trailer, though nothing has been announced as yet. [Thanks, VG247]

In more exciting news, the mysterious EA joint project between the insane developer of No More Heroes and the genius behind Resident Evil will finally be unveiled on September 15th. With both Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami at the helm, this game is likely to be violent, lavish, and extremely quirky. Place your bets here. [1UP]

We'll be keeping an eye on both titles next week- and will bring you the latest.

New Rock Band 3 Trailer Tinkles The Ivories

rb3key

Harmonix has released a new trailer for the upcoming Rock Band 3 that shows off the new keyboard peripheral thanks to some developer commentary and the epic funk stylings of Huey Lewis and The News. Whilst we've reported on the keytar before, you'll now be able to see it in action.

The standard mode bunches groups of keys into the five familiar colours- but Rick Wakeman wannabes will be able to use the 'Pro Mode' to play an octave and a half of real solos. I was lucky enough to try this out/massively embarrass myself at Gamescom- and let me assure you, it'll take some serious getting used to.

EA Reveals E3 Lineup:

EA_logo_psd

EA is the latest publisher to drop us a line with their E3 lineup: and it's one of the most impressive so far. There's a good mix of balls-out action, horror and more balls-out action, with a sprinkling of sims and Wii fitness thrown in for good measure. For your consideration:

  • Medal of Honor,
  • Need for Speed
  • Dead Space 2
  • EA SPORTS Active 2
  • The Sims 3 (for consoles)
  • EA SPORTS MMA
  • Crysis 2
  • Bulletstorm

Excited to see their lineup in action? Their media briefing can be viewed live at www.ea.com/e3 at 11.00pm this Monday.

Halo 3 Has Outsold Six Top PS3 Exclusives Combined...

aaronchicks

Okay, folks- this one might be a little controversial. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has come out swinging into the pre-E3 trash talking arena by twittering that Halo 3 has sold six of the top Playstation 3 exclusives... combined.

"Just in from research team (NPD): Halo 3 has outsold Resistance 1 + 2, Uncharted 1+2, Killzone 2 and God of War III COMBINED....wow"

It's an impressive statistic, but I would be interested to see the as yet unreported NPD data before making a call on this one (as well as worldwide sales data). Frankly, I think Greenburg may be missing the point. Halo 3 may have sold phenomenally well, but it's still one exclusive compared to six. Microsoft may have won this battle- but I fear the console war will be ultimately decided by the number of first party exclusives that each brand brings to the table. Rock Band 3 Keytar Prototype and Pro Mode Revealed

rock band 3 keytar

Rock Band 3 has been teasing us with tantalising little details every now and again, but USA Today has finally brought us the full scoop on Rock Band 3's Pro Mode, keyboard peripheral and partial setlist. And it's looking very exciting indeed.

First up, let's take a look at the Keytar. Whilst the model shown above is only a working prototype, we're overjoyed to see that it has two octaves of full-sized keys and what appears to be a 'pitch bend' flick switch on the handle. With any luck, it could actually be be used as a functional MIDI keyboard with the right software support (or homebrew app). As a keyboard player myself, I'm looking forward to seeing how well it integrates with the traditional dynamics.

Now for the setlist. The few confirmed thus far are a mixed bag, containing a few bona fide classics (such as Whitesnake's Here I Go Again and The Power of Love by Huey Lewis) and a mix of different styles. I still don't know whether Bohemian Rhapsody will stand up to repeated playthroughs, but hell, we can't wait to give it a go!

Finally, Harmonix have revealed the Pro Mode, which might well be the most exciting feature so far. This hardcore gametype will replace the traditional scrolling gems with more realistic musical notation (including guitar tab), essentially granting the game more credibility amongst serious musicians as well as teaching very basic musical theory to newcomers. Two new peripherals will take advantage of the Pro Mode, including a full-size, fully-functional Fender Squier Strat. Err... that's pretty much killed Power Gig then...

They're also throwing in 7-player band sessions, improved drums and cymbals, better story mode and character progression... basically, the way things are shaping up, Rock Band 3 might well be the most comprehensive music game ever made. And the last you'll ever need. [USA Today]

Valve Crush our Hopes and Dreams... Again

jump

Just in case we all weren't miserable enough when we found out that Episode 3 wouldn't be making an appearance at E3, Valve has decided to let us all know that Portal 2 has been delayed until next year. Thanks a bunch, guys.

Still, at least we have their E3 "surprise" to look forward to... but the way things are going, they'll probably reveal that they've killed Santa, cancelled Christmas and eloped with our partners.
