The Order: 1886 Revealed By Ready At Dawn & Sony Santa Monica

Steampunk British Demon Hunters?

The Order: 1886 is one of the new IPs headed to the PS4, which seems to cast players as British demon hunters plying their trade in a Steampunk alternate London, using impossible weaponry and stiff upper lip aplenty.

Erm, yes please. YES.

See what you make of the reveal trailer, which is apparently created in-engine but isn't representative of gameplay. It's under development by Ready At Dawn with support from Sony Santa Monica.

God Of War III | £10.00 | Asda Direct | PS3

Its prequel Ascension may well be upon us now, but for those of you that have yet to experience the final chapter of the angriest Spartan, this is an opportune time to finally get involved. The deal from Argos currently provides a saving of a fiver over the next best offer.

Its good looks may have been surpassed by more recent games, but God Of War III still remains one of the better brawlers out there in terms of mechanics and unrelenting violence. It didn’t bring anything new to the genre, but instead focused on giving PS3 owners one of the most polished gaming experiences possible. Thanks to elmoses @ HUKD!

God of War: Ascension Review | Treading Water in the Calm Before the Storm

Platform: PS3

Developer: Sony Santa Monica Studios

Publisher: Sony

Following up the cataclysmic events of God of War III must have been a terrifying ordeal for a studio to go through. However, when a series already has a prequel along with another game filling the gap between games one and two I struggled to see how Kratos’ adventures could do anything but go forwards.

In an old panel interview with the other four individual God of War director’s, David Jaffe (GOW1) said that he would have liked to see gods from around the world (think Norse and Chinese) move in on Olympus in a power vacuum caused by the death of the Zeus and his brethren. That would have been an unbelievably hot premise and the only true way to follow up Kratos’ gloriously enraged finale. It’s going to happen; it’s too good an idea to not. But sadly, I expect we’ll have to wait until PlayStation 4 as Sony are playing it safe with this prequel set before even the events of Chains of Olympus.

So where do you go after taking on the gods of Mount Olympus and even the mountain-sized Titans? Even further back into the ancient world is the answer as Kratos’ main adversaries this time are The Furies, three beings who hunt down anyone who has broken a blood oath to a god. Having recently decided he’d had enough of being Hades’ plaything, Kratos is the latest object of their affections.

God of War: Ascension Review | Treading Water in the Calm Before the Storm

Series fans may have already picked up on the fact that this story forgoes much of the reason Kratos is locked into servitude to Hades and such. I thought with this being the earliest game in the chronological timeline it wouldn’t rely so much on knowledge of the past games and I’d be able to recommend it as a starting point for any newcomers. This isn’t the case, if this is your first God of War game; you’re going to feel a bit left out. A missed opportunity to find a new audience to be sure. On the plus side, I will recommend the HD collections of the previous games as the overall series is amongst PlayStation’s very best. Right, enough newbie pandering, let’s get stuck in.

The latest trailer for God Of War: Ascension gives us another look at the singleplayer campaign, which has been ignored lately in favour of crowing about the multiplayer suite. A demo is slated to hit PSN tomorrow, so you won't have long to wait before getting hands-on with Sony Santa Monica's prequel.

Ascension certainly seems to be a visceral and satisfying brawler, at least from what we've seen of it, but will it be able to drive the franchise forward or simply sideways for a bit? We'll find out on March 13th.

It's portmanteau time! What happens when you stuff motion-capture and voice-overs into a blender? Well you get a broken blender and a mess of really expensive gadgetry. But you also get VO-CAP!

Anyway, this latest GOW: Ascension vid takes a look at the process, going behind the scenes at Sony Santa Monica, and getting a bit of insight from the cast and crew. Game director Todd Papy looks particularly enthused.

God Of War: Ascension Dev Diary - 'The Art Of Online War'

The latest developer diary from Sony Santa Monica Studios is much less about the history of GoW: Ascension's multiplayer than the practical realities of how it will work. Watch the new video for the multiplayer characters and discussion of how the new modes "bring the God Of War gore to killing your mates."

Sony are clearly keen to push God Of War: Ascension's multiplayer suite as hard as possible, but are you actually excited about it? If you're fired up or lurking on the fence, you can now download and participate in the beta, so long as you've got a PlayStation Plus subscription.

God of War: Ascension looks like it will give us more of the same when it comes to Kratos' bloodthirsty adventures, which is no bad thing. In the e3 demo from last night's Sony press conference, Kratos was seen tearing the limbs and hads off of churlish goat-men, giving the elephant Man a taste of cold, hard steel, and rippin the tits off of a kraken.

It's out on March 12, 2013, and you can check out the video above.

Sorcery Dev Diary Discusses Technology In Motion

In the first part of a behind-the-scenes trailer series, Sorcery's designers discuss how the PS Move exclusive will transform Sony's motion control peripheral into a "magic wand in your hand." Some nifty technology should make the controls feel fluid and devastatingly accurate, but most importantly, completely immersive.

Plus, you can create a Firenado. We like this.

Sorcery is out on May 25th, and we can't wait to see if the PlayStation Move finally has a true killer app.

Datura Trailer Gives A Better Look At Mysterious Title

Plastic are rather of the opinion that their Playstation Move title - Datura - is an "interactive experience" rather than a "game" in the traditional sense of the word.

"While taking inspiration from film-like narratives, Datura is a story you get a chance to physically participate in," explained Plastic's Michał Staniszewski, before GDC. "As you travel through the game, you will encounter choices and face your consequences. It is through these puzzles that Datura explores an element of anxiety: was it a right choice or a wrong choice?"

Although built around the Playstation Move, the game will be controllable via SIXAXIS and traditional button inputs. Plastic are rather hoping gamers will be able to complete Datura in one sitting, much like you would a film, targeting an "unbroken experience" for full impact.

Much like Journey, then, in that respect.
