Could This Be The Game Mode We Were Looking For?

Well, this might be an interesting turn of events. During a community event that took place last night, BioWare issued a new video that teases what is coming to their MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic. While the video doesn’t confirm anything 100%, it certainly suggests that space combat PvP (which is, most importantly, off-rails) is being developed for the online title.

We’ll let you be the judge by watching the video above. [via MMORPG]

Longshot | £0.03 | Desura | PC
  • What: Longshot
  • Where: Desura
  • Current Price: £0.03
  • RRP: £2.99

Longshot is a streamlined team-based space combat game featuring a small collection of ships, weapons and bases to squabble over. In the interests of full disclosure, I haven't actually heard of it until today, but you can now get the full version for the ridiculously low price of three British pence.

So, yeah. Three pence. I doubt that you'll get much in the way of buyer's remorse here.

Space Pirates And Zombies | £3.48 | GamersGate | PC
  • What: SPAZ: Space Pirates And Zombies
  • Where: GamersGate
  • Current Price: £3.48
  • RRP: £10.99

Even though it has a name that makes it sound like a Saturday morning cartoon, SPAZ is genuinely excellent. It starts out as a simple space shooter, but you'll soon be able to control entire fleets, engage in advanced naval tactics and scour the galaxy for experience and items. GamersGate have a great little price for this great big game (rivalling the early beta deals), and one that you ought to take advantage of.

Blast From The Past | Strange Adventures In Infinite Space

Did you buy the Indie Royale May Hurray bundle? I certainly hope you did. Not only would you have snagged a copy of the superb Dungeon Defenders, but you'll also have a shiny new .exe for Weird Worlds: Return To Infinite Space. This unassuming little title presents an infinitely replayable adventure through a randomised galaxy, letting you live out your own epic space opera in twenty minutes or less.

What you might not know, however, is that it's the sequel to Strange Adventures In Infinite Space, which delighted those who first played it nearly a decade ago (though the word "return" was probably a dead giveaway). SAIS, as it's usually known, allowed us explore strange new worlds, seek out new civilisations, loot advanced technology and blow up entire fleets... in our lunch hour.

Dark Horizon | £1.98 | Game & Gamestation | PC

This one lets you attempt to save humanity as you drift through space across 22 missions, some of which are fraught with peril so you should probably stay one step ahead of your enemies by customising your ship with the latest technology. You'll also get to evade hostiles by slipping into stealth mode, or if you prefer to battle it out you could always charge in guns blazing. Game and Gamestation are parting with copies of the game for £1.98 which should easily save you over £3 on the next best offer coming in from Amazon. Thanks to goonertillidie @ HUKD.

Even though it has a name that makes it sound like a Saturday morning cartoon, SPAZ is genuinely excellent. It starts out as a simple space shooter, but you'll soon be able to control entire fleets, engage in advanced naval tactics and scour the galaxy for experience and items. This beta entry is a bit like a pre-order, except that you can play the game immediately and get the full version when it's out.

Impulse Driven are offering a decent saving compared to the £10.99 RRP... but my attention was soon diverted to Desura, the Indie digital distribution platform. They're willing to shave off another few pence to bring it down to £8.99, which provides a £2 reduction. You'll have to download their client, though.
