As the hype reaches boiling point for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, nothing is safe from being branded with Star Wars logos and themes. Like this Darth Vader edition Dualshock 4 PS4 controller. Initially only available with the Battlefront console bundle, you can now order one solus for £39.

Star Wars: Battlefront Review - Old Rope or a New Hope?

Despite the success of the original Star Wars: Battlefront games back in the PS2/Xbox days, we never saw a third game last-gen. But now, with modern gaming technology and DICE's expertise on full throttle, we have a game that looks almost as good as the movies that inspired them.

Sure, the animations aren't as fancy as that original trailer set on Endor, (called it!) but the graphical clarity and slick 60 frames-per-second across all platforms makes this one of the best-looking multiplayer shooters ever made.

For what it's worth, I've had significant hands-on time with the finished PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. The PS4's resolution comes out on top (900p) and the Xbox One version runs at 720p. While that may sound disappointing for XO fans, it really isn't that noticeable if I'm honest unless you get uncomfortably close to some of the textures. Which you won't have time to do because you'll be too busy getting shot.

Star Wars: Battlefront Review - Old Rope or a New Hope?

Both versions feature mild texture pop-in, especially on larger maps, but overall, the scenery is magnificent. The tall forests of Endor are supported by the likes of the slick black rocks gouged by red hot lava streams on Sullust or the epic eternal winters of Hoth. Fans of the original movies are going to love it.

Cheapest Star Wars: Battlefront PS4/XO deals

Star Wars: Battlefront launched this week and we've hunted down the best deals on PS4 and Xbox One. With most retailers selling the shooter for over £40, it's nice to see one stand out from the crowd at £37.95 for a like new copy of £2 more for brand new (still the cheapest around).

I'm in the process of reviewing the game and am waiting to see how the servers hold up this weekend before offering a final verdict. They've been rock solid so far for me on both PS4 and Xbox One, so kudos to DICE and EA there. As you may have heard via some early reviews though, longevity could be the game's downfall. The weapons feel a bit weak too sadly. On the other hand, it's absolutely stunning to look at and the sound design ticks all the right boxes.

COMPETITION: Win one month EA Access and 10 hour Star Wars: Battlefront trial

[UPDATE: The competition is now closed. Check your email/twitter inboxes to see if you've won!]

Star Wars: Battlefront is almost here, but how would you like to play it even sooner? We have three codes to give away for a month of EA Access on Xbox One.

The highlight of EA's program right now being a free ten hour trial for Star Wars: Battlefront. That's right, you'll be able to download Battlefront as soon as you get a code and play it for ten hours, unlocking new gear, XP and achievements as you go. Then you'll have the option of buying the game via download or your save file will work when you pick up the disc version.

Once you've blitzed 10 hours on that though, you'll want to spend the rest of the month's access downloading a wealth of hot EA content included Dragon Age: Inquisition, Need for Speed Rivals, UFC, Madden 15, FIFA 15 and more.

There are two ways to enter and feel free to try through both (although you'll only win one code).

Star Wars Battlefront Beta Impressions | “Great, kid! Don't get cocky.”

After an extended weekend of slaughter of Imperials and Rebels – in which 9 million players took part – the Star Wars Battlefront beta ended earlier this week. Giving us a taster of three of the modes available, along with just a handful of customisation options, we all finally sampled the action that will be coming in November. However, with the blasters now silent, the lightsabres no longer massacring people, and the Walkers no longer treading on everyone, it’s given me time to reflect on what the beta showed us.

The first big impression I felt once in-game was that it looked and felt like Star Wars. From the fantastic visuals, to the way characters move, to the sounds of the weaponry, engine roars, and iconic music playing in the background – it’s like we’re actually in the films. The replication of the Battle of Hoth in Walker Assault made me feel like I had been thrown into the start of The Empire Strikes Back, especially as a Rebel. It’s a feeling that I haven’t really had with a Star Wars game since playing through Star Wars: Alliance back in the day, so the Battlefront beta was off to a good start.

Limited Edition Star Wars Darth Vader PS4 bundles coming in November

"The Force is strong with this one." Or is it? I really can't decide if the new Darth Vader flavoured PS4 console looks great or tacky. The new controller and its effort to incorporate ol smokey's suit buttons is seriously hard to look at though (see below). There's more than a paint job though, Star Wars fans. Let's take a look at what else is bundled with the new PS4.

Update your calenders - EA titles will now release on a Thursday in the UK

Here's a bit of news that we actually missed from earlier this week, as EA announced on Monday that all future titles from the publisher would now be released  on a Thursday in the UK instead of a Friday. The move has been done to bring release dates in line with the rest of Europe, who have up until now always had a day head-start over UK gamers. As a result, the new release dates for the remaining 2015 release schedule from EA now looks like this:

  • EA SPORTS Madden NFL 16 – August 27
  • EA SPORTS FIFA 16 – September 24
  • Need for Speed – November 5
  • Star Wars Battlefront – November 19

EA Gamescom 2015 Presentation Roundtable Impressions | Yet another mixed bag?

EA's Gamescom 2015 presentation was only an hour long compared to Microsoft's 90 minutes, but that didn't mean it wasn't a padded affair. There were some gems in there though along with another adorable appearance from EA's unofficial new mascot. Let's see what the team had to say.
