Super Street Fighter IV £14.99 @ Play [PS3 & XBox 360 Games] photo

Among the raft of great deals available from Play at the moment is Super Street Fighter IV for just £14.99. The next best price for the 360 version is £16.95 from My Memory while PS3 players are looking to pay at least £3 more elsewhere, with the next best offer coming in at £17.99 from HMV or Amazon.

Super Street Fighter IV is, of course, an reboot of last year's massively popular new entry to the Street Fighter franchise, which, amongst other updates, adds ten new characters to the roster. The extra fighters include a brand new face, Juri, a Taekwondo fighter from South Korea who works for Seth's S.I.N. organisation, as well as a list of old favourites: Dee Jay and T.Hawk (from Super Street Fighter II); Dudley, Makoto and Ibuki (from Street Fighter III); Guy and Cody (from Final Fight); and Adon (from the original Street Fighter).

In addition to these new fighters, a lot of tweaking has been going on, with the aim of making battles more fun and accessible. All the characters have had their combat analysed and rebalanced and then been given a new, additional, Ultra combo move.
There's also some new modes to get stuck into, for example, Endless Battle which pits you against a neverending, rotating group of players and Team Battle in which up to eight players scrap in a series of elimination matches, as well as a Replay Channel in which you can view and save replays of matches from around the world.

I've always been cynical about the Super versions of Street Fighter games, as well as any other similar cash ins on popular IP but I have to admit, there is a lot here for £14.99, particularly if you don't have the original version.

Street Fighter IV was pretty much the fighting game of last year, sweeping the floor with classic gameplay, some new tactical additions and gorgeous visuals. Now, of course, in true Capcom fashion, there's a Super version out there, offering fans the definitive experience with and bunch of new and returning characters from the series' other instalments.

You can currently pick up SSFIV for just £16.85 from ShopTo, saving you a just over £1 on the nearest competitor over at The Hut.

As well as the ten additional new characters, Capcom have popped in a few other extras as well. Now gamers will be able to review past glories thanks to the Replay Channel, the new mode Endless Battle will see you squaring off against rotating groups of up to 8 players much like the new Team Battle which now makes its way online. Series fans will also appreciate the return of the barrel and car smashing mini-games as well as the dialogue-fronted rival battles of the past.

The big differences with SSFIV compared to the original come in the form of these online modes. It's certainly a superior package to the original, and this is an excellent price for it but whether it's right for you will probably depend on how invested you are in the series and how much time you're going to spend online. If you're just a curious fighting fan or simply fancy picking it for the odd bit of fun then I'd actually suggest simply buying the original for half the price, but for fans yet to purchase this and for those of you who make good use of XBL Gold, this is the one you want.
