The Last Of Us Remastered | GameStop | £28.97
PS3 vs PS4 comparison video5 reasons to buy

GameStop are currently selling The Last of Us: Remastered for £28.97, a quid less than their previous cheapest price. Newcomers who've got a PS4 and are yet to play TLOU would definitely do well to pick it up, though you might want to wait for the price to come down a little more if you've already got the original. The visuals are noticeably sharper and the commentary is a nice bonus, and the added DLC makes this a pretty decent value proposition on PS4. Plus, you know, it's one of the best games of last year.

Five reasons you probably need The Last of Us: Remastered in your life

The Last of Us: Remastered emerged last Friday, bringing one of the finest games of last year to the PS4, and inviting a whole bunch of people who'd never played the award-winning game before to enjoy it in super-sparkly fashion, with the game having been given a fairly impressive graphical overhaul.

You can see the difference to a certain extent in the comparison video we sent live last week (embedded below), but really videos don't do  this game justice. It was one of the best-looking games on the PS3 (if not the best-looking game on the PS3), and it really looks the business of PS4.

If you've never played The Last of Us before, here are five reasons why picking up the Remastered version is something you really ought to do.

1. The award-winning original remains intact

Five reasons you probably need The Last of Us: Remastered in your life

Naughty Dog don't make bad games, at least they haven't even come close yet. I gave The Last of Us 8/10 and an Editor's Choice badge last year, praising it for its script, its cinematography, and the standout performances from Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson. Here's what I said in my review:

The Last of Us tells a cracking story, but it does so in such a heavy-handed way that it's difficult to feel totally engaged come the conclusion. Well paced, superbly written, and boasting some of the best visual and audio work of this generation, Naughty Dog have once again produced a fine game. This is linear blockbuster  gaming at its best, and it dazzles the senses. even if the form disappoints the mind a little given the genre.

The criticisms I brought up in my review are still valid, but that doesn't make The Last of Us: Remastered any less of an attractive proposition. It's a must-play game if only for the story itself, and you owe it to yourselves to see What Naughty Dog Did After Uncharted.

Just a reminder that, despite many retailers lowering their prices, Gamestop are still the cheapest place to pick up a copy of The Last Of Us Remastered. They're back in stock for the time being if you're looking for a new way of playing one of the PS3's best games, or missed it the first time around.

Watch Dogs review | TLOU Remastered Comparison Video

If you're in the market for a PS4 and prefer convenience to shopping around, Tesco's big fat bundle is probably worth a look. £385 will net you the console, a DS4 controller, divisive (but in my opinion very enjoyable indeed) sandbox Watch Dogs and gussied-up survival thriller The Last of Us Remastered, which is a pretty decent haul. Though you can alternatively pick up a PS4 solus and trawl for pre-owned titles in order to get an extra saving, this is much more convenient, though you'll need to click and collect from store to avoid extra delivery charges.

The Last of Us: Remastered is a bit of a no-brainer for people who find themselves with a PS4 having not ever played one of the best games of last year. But is it worth a punt if you've already Platinum'd (yeah, that's a verb now) the original? Well, we'll have a full breakdown for you early next week, but in the meantime, here's a helpful little video that puts the two versions side by side, to help you make an informed decision as the game launches today.

You can check out the first 15 minutes of The Last of Us: Remastered after the jump.

The Last of Us: Remastered | £29.97 | Gamestop

We're not the biggest fans of Gamestop here on Dealspwn,  but they're the place to go if you want a copy of The Last of Us: Remastered for under £30. It's probably not particularly worth it if you've already got the PS3 version (depends how burning your desire for a replay actually is), but it's certainly a must-buy for Xbox converts.

The Last Of Us Remastered | GameStop | £29.97PS3 Review

Prices are yo-yo-ing all over for the internet for this one, but GameStop are sticking to a health sub-£30 to tempt you in for the new-gen upgrade. We're yet to see the remastered visuals running in-game, but so far things are looking remarkably similar to the (admittedly awesome) PS3 visuals. This is more for those gamers that made the jump from 360 to PS4, although my inner graphics whore really wants it too. At least the Left Behind DLC is included with the package, which makes this cheaper than buying that and the PS3 version separately.

GameStop might be hell-bent on taking over the games industry completely, but occasionally they have some pretty sweet deals. If you're yet to slap down some cash for a new-gen console, you might be interested in their PS4 bundle that comes with a copy of the upcoming The Last of Us Remastered. Do be aware that this bundle doesn't contain the PlayStation Camera, but frankly unless you're planning on sparking a Twitch career, it gets about as much service as a McDonald's in the Olympic village.

Nice spot by dalesio.

This week on Game Buzz... We take a look at SOE's zombie survival game H1Z1, we chat about the recent Nintendo Direct and the upcoming Smash Bros. games for 3DS and Wii U, we have a bit of a natter about Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and The Last of Us coming to PS4, and we get a bit flustered over custard.

I can't explain, it makes more sense when you hear it.

PS4: The Last of Us Remastered emerges accidentally, but will you buy it?

Sony accidentally let slip that The Last of Us Remastered is A Thing that's coming to PS4.

A banner advertisement for a revamped PS4 version of Naughty Dog's survival-horror epic appeared on the US Sony Entertainment Network website (via NeoGAF), boasting a $59.99 price tag.

It's got a nice Day 1 Digital release badge as well, from which we can infer that there'll be a physical version of the game too.

The Last Of Us: Left Behind Review | Friends Until The EndPlatform: PS3

Developer: Naughty Dog

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment

As someone who enjoyed The Last Of Us (perhaps significantly more than our on-site review) I was both excited and rather nervous about Left Behind. After all, getting your money’s worth out of DLC has always been a hot topic here on Dealspwn, and buying season passes ahead of time has added further fuel to that fire (and is something we really, really suggest you do not do – wait for the content to be revealed and reviewed first to avoid disappointment.) Thankfully, Left Behind provides a delicate and engrossing look at Ellie’s life before she met Joel in an extra chapter that fans of The Last Of Us should absolutely get hold of.

With that rather stark and quite upfront endorsement, let’s explain why I feel that is the case. It should come as no surprise that the narrative aspects of The Last Of Us are as strong as ever in Left Behind, with the optional environmental interactions once again bringing a very human touch between the traversal and action sequences. This time around, the subject of lost innocence and growing up in a world gone to hell is the main focus, as Ellie’s relationship with her best friend Riley reaches a critical turning point. It should come of no surprise that the script is of a high standard, but it is the performances by Ashley Johnson and Yanni King that make each interaction between the two a highlight of the DLC.

Naughty Dog Considered Rebooting Jak & Daxter, Made The Last Of Us Instead

According to Naughty Dog's creative director, the studio actively considered rebooting the Jak & Daxter series after finishing Uncharted 2. However, their ideas ended up at odds with the original games, leading them to start working on an interesting little side project that turned into The Last Of Us.

The phrase "right decision" is bandied about a lot these days...

UK Games Charts | 28th September 2013

As much as we enjoy causing havoc in expansive crime sandboxes, us Brits do love our footy, as evidenced by FIFA 14 knocking Grand Theft Auto V off its pedestal this week. Though sales are down compared to last year's iteration, perhaps due to the next-gen transition, free Xbox One promotion and, erm, that Rockstar game, it's still selling strong and outpacing its markedly improved rival PES 2014.

GTA V sales have dropped 82% since last week, which may well be refreshed once Grand Theft Auto Online releases this week. In other news, Ubisoft are laughing with a couple of games in the top ten, while Disney Infinity, Minecraft, The Last Of Us and Diablo III continue to chart well.
