Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D on 3DS only £21.95

Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D on the 3DS is stubbornly lurking around the £3o mark on most sites, but we have a sweet £21.95 deal for you below.

While we think Majora's mask has aged a bit better, you should certainly give Ocarina a go if you've never played it. Take a look at Jon's review, or read the short version: As a 3DS game, it's utterly essential and really should have been a launch title. It's a fourteen year old killer app that'll serve up a feast of wonderment and whimsy, a magnificent masterpiece that has aged gracefully and looks better than it ever has before with some well worked portable considerations too. As an introduction to the phenomena that isOcarina of Time, though, knock a point off and head for the Virtual Console.

Thanks to Lomi.

No Ganondorf, Master Sword-Forging, New Instrument

Nintendo is finally abandoning the veil of secrecy draped across Skyward Sword, revealing today that their upcoming action-adventurer predates Ocarina of Time in chronological terms, and will explain how the fabled Master Sword came to be. And Link won't be battling long-running villain Ganondorf, either, who's been ditched in favor of the effeminate Lord Ghirahim. And what classic instrument might Link be plucking in Skyward Sword?

We will be running a nice big fat competition later on this summer when our shiny new re-skin comes back out of beta, but we've been rummaging through the Dealspwn vaults and have found some shiny new things to giveaway. This week, we're going to be running a series of 3DS previews to help explain why it's not just good for using as a doorstop. Of course, loads of people (this writer included) have already taken a trip down memory lane with the fantastic Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

If you're yet to get involved with what is quite possibly The Best Game of All Time  - which you can now play on the bus, up a tree, on top of a mountain, in a submarine, on the loo and wherever else you choose - don't fret! We've got a brand spanking new copy to give away. Check out our review of the game here!

Here's how to get involved:

  1. Tell us what you love most about the Zelda series in the comments
  2. Use a valid email address

NB. You can get a second entry if you start or participate in a Zelda-related discussion too with the same account.

...and that's it. Easy, right? If you don't yet have an account, you can set one up here. Winners will be chosen at random after the competition closes on Friday 16th July at noon.

A few little rules to bear in mind

Last week we reported on how buyers of the 3DS remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (for which you can find Matt’s review here) could get their hands on a free copy of the soundtrack by registering their new purchase over at the Club Nintendo website. Things did not go as planned however, and a “technical issue” meant that many users were unable to qualify for their free copy. You only have to look at our comments section to see a fraction of the disappointed fans that had trouble registering on the site.

However, the panic is now over as Nintendo have finally responded to the situation, and it is good news for everybody.

So, The Greatest Game of All Time gets another makeover, this time in portable form, with Link's adventures remastered in glasses-free stereoscopic 3D. It's fitting that the game which propelled the series into polygonal 3D now finds a new home on the 3DS some thirteen years later. But, of course, remakes are tricky things. Change too much and you run the risk of negatively affecting what made the original great in the first place. Change too little, however, and there's little point in buying the thing.

It's been a while since 1998, that's for certain, but this is certainly not the first time the N64 classic has been redone and updated for a new generation. There was the Master Quest bundle, of course, that came with Wind Waker, not to mention The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition for the Gamecube, which saw it accompanied by the likes of the criminally underrated Majora's Mask as well as emulations of The Legend of Zelda and The Adventures of Link. It's available today on the Wii's Virtual Console for a tenner, which rather begs the question as to why you'd want to pay over three times that for a game that's thirteen years old, especially if you already own it on a playable platform or have played it to death before.

Ocarina Of Time 3D 3

For those of you you don't and haven't, Ocarina of Time follows the story of a young elfin lad who lives in the forest, beset by nightmarish dreams of a man clad in black armour, a young girl he's never met in his life before and lots and lots of thunder and lightning and fire. He's a bit of an outsider - the only one in the village not to have a fairy, for which he is mocked - and only really had one proper friend, named Saria. Anyway, one day the forest's protector - a giant, moustachioed talking tree - summons the boy, sending a fairy called Navi to help him on his way. Upon meeting with the tree, the boy learns that his dreams are in fact visions, that the armour-clad man is terribly real, pretty evil and hopes to get his hands on an ultimate power called the Triforce. Basically, it's up to you to stop him.

So, for the Nintendo eShop, Link's Awakening will be available for download today, Ocarina of Time is due on the 3DS, and Skyward Sword is set for release at the end of the year. A limited edition golden Wiimote will release alongside it. The Ocarina of Time 3D soundtrack and a 25th Anniversary concert album are also set to launch alongside Skyward Sword.

Ocarina Of Time 3D

Ok, so I'll start off my MCM Expo London Comic Con 2011 coverage by going over the first thing I stumbled onto. Friday 27th May, dubbed the VIP day, was the quietest day by far, probably because it was limited to press, industry reps, a handful of celebrities, and those people who'd booked weekend tickets well in advance. As a result once I'd made my way through the press office, I didn't have too much trouble navigating around the various stalls, booths, and stages, because there were relatively few people around.

On a tip given to me by our very own editor, Matt , I endeavoured to make the Nintendo stall my first point of call so that I could have a quick peruse of their wears. I did however, get stalled on the way by the allure of Warner Games' statue of Christian Bale's Batman, accompanied by a rather flash flatscreen showing the Arkham City trailer, but realising they weren't showing anything I hadn't already seen I hopped the short distance to Nintendo's area.

New Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Trailer Melts Our Hearts

I've been fairly unequivocal in my grumblings about Nintendo of late, only two days ago I was stood with a  bunch of journalists, chatting away in exasperation about the distinct lack of ideasthe Big N seems to have these days. But then I watch something like this and suddenly it doesn't matter any more. If you fell in love with the N64's premier Hylean epic back in the day, this video will make you squeak with nostalgic delight and remind you why, nearly a decade and a half on, it's still one of the finest games of all time.

Hasn't aged too well in the looks department, mind, but you won't give a flying monkeys about that.
