The Morning Papers | Heists & Lows

Good morning!

Said the broken man, who discovered that Platinum Games weren't teasing Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance 2 after all -- rather their mysterious "2" logo was just celebrating the game's second anniversary. I'm not crying. It's just raining... on my face.

Still, we had a big day yesterday, and it's time to crack on. Starting perhaps with Crowfall, the ambitious new MMO that is currently  doing the business on Kickstarter, then mentioning the fact that GTA Online's Heists finally have a release date!

The Morning Papers | Crank Up The Valve

Good morning!

Big news from Valve today, who've announced that they're going to be bringing a slew of hardware along to GDC. Not only will they be showing off the finalised Steam Controller peripheral and new "living room devices," suggesting that they might finally be ready to have another crack at the stalled Steam Machines initiative, but they'll also be debuting new VR technology. It will be interesting to see what their plans are, and whether they plan to go head-to-head with Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus.

Here's hoping, because VR needs multiple big players to become an industry as opposed to a community. Here are your headlines.

Good morning!

We've got plenty of PS4-related news for you today, starting with the fact that The Order: 1886 is last week's chart-topping smash. We suspect that it will be this week's most commonly eBayed item, but hey, credit where it's due.

Meanwhile Sony still can't guarantee if DriveClub's PS+ version will ever arrive, while in much better news, Bloodborne still looks amazing in a new feature trailer. Fingers crossed that it lives up to clear potential.

The Morning Papers | Rock Band Returns?

Good morning!

The big news today is that The Order: 1886 might be worth picking up on the cheap this summer. The PS4's first AAA title of the year is a bit of a damb squib, but frankly everyone with half a brain called it months in advance. Nice graphics though.

However, in better news, Bloomberg reports that a Rock Band sequel might be headed to PS4 and Xbox One. The renewed DLC suggests that something is stirring, and we reckon that it's high time we put the band back together and rocked out once more. I love it. I need it. I bleed it. Yeah, it's a wild hurricane, alright, hold tight I'mmmm aaaa hiiiiighwaaaay staaaaaaa[you're fired - Ed]

The Morning Papers | Project CARS Off Track Again, Ubisoft Getting Back On Track

Good morning!

Today brings us the news that Project CARS has been set back once again (check out our latest preview!), while Assassin's Creed Unity continues shambling desperately towards what we'd consider to be an acceptable game. For starters: here are your headlines.

The Morning Papers | The Order Haterade & The Golden Amiibo Mystery Solved

Good morning!

Unless you really wanted that Gold Mario Amiibo, that is. Nintendo has finally revealed that the golden figurine is indeed real, but will only be available as a Wallmart exclusive with "nothing to announce at present for the UK market."

Oh well, at least the mystery's solved. In other news, The Order: 1886 developers claim that they're attracting unfair criticism while failing to acknowledge how poor the preview builds were -- hopefully the finished article will ease our early concerns. You'll find out tomorrow.

The Morning Papers | Evolve vs Zelda

Good morning!

It's the battle of new versus classic in the games charts this week as Evolve takes the top spot, narrowly pipping The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D to the post. It's a predictable result, though we'd recommend the remastered N64 classic over the insanely expensive multiplayer eat'em up all day long. Until the moon crashes into the Earth, time resets and we start recommending it again.

You've met with a terrible AAA fate, haven't you Evolve?

The Morning Papers | Happy New 3DS Day!

The New 3DS and New 3DS XL have finally arrived! Have you picked up your new New 3DS or new New 3DS XL, or do you plan to wait for a pre-owned deal on an old New 3DS or an old New 3DS XL? Or even get a new old 3DS or new old 3DS XL in a deal?

Yes, the name is still terrible, but the hardware is superb. Stay tuned for our coverage next week!

In other news, Peter Molyneux has promised to never speak to the press again, there's still no sign of DriveClub's PS+ Edition and the new Space Hulk: Deathwing trailer features great footage but a bizarre choice of soundtrack. Judge for yourself.

Good morning!

Some big news today as the new Hitman movie gets its first trailer, UK retailers launch a ridiculous new Xbox One bundle price war and the winner of Curiosity reveals how poorly he's been treated by Peter Molyneux as far as his role as GODUS' top deity is concerned. Of all Molyneux's many broken promises, this one might top the lot.

Good morning!

Nothing is sacred to Atari. Nothing. Not content with trying to turn Alone In The Dark into a third-person shooter, they've now announced that Asteroids is going to rebooted into an "open world survival MMO" because oh why. Still, hey, if it's fun we'll play it I suppose.

On the subject of open world survival games, though, the latest Dying Light trailer is well worth a watch, especially because it contains a hidden redeem code for a powerful in-game weapon! And Ubisoft have revealed that their unreleased Wii U game isn't ZombiU too -- in fact it's the polar opposite.

Good morning!

This is going to be a big week as Evolve and the New 3DS prepare to launch, and we've got some interesting news to kick things off. Six million players tried out the Battlefield Hardline beta -- which we reckoned was 'not much cop' -- while Microsoft has teased Xbox One screenshot functionality and Evolve will require a hefty day one patch.

There's also an interesting legal precedent as US courts hand a Las Vegas gamer a five-year stretch for inciting a 'SWATting' attack against a streamer by falsely alleging that a murder had taken place. It's a tough sentence, but a fair one in our view, since SWAT teams don't mess about and the incident could have gotten seriously dangerous. Thankfully no-one was hurt and this should send a clear message to anyone thinking of doing the same.

Good morning!

Matt is off to pastures new after his five-year stint, but we remain and the show must go on. In the news today we learn how Halo 5's beta will affect the finished game, receive some interesting Destiny updates, confirm that Dark Souls II will be very shiny indeed on PS4 and see Final Fantasy XV from the perspective of a cat.

To be honest, though, we're still watching Persona 5's debut trailer on a loop. In fact, I've watched it so many times that I've been able to pick out some new Persona 5 details behind the stylish artistic flair. Here are your headlines.

The Morning Papers | You Know The Funk Is Bottomless

Good morning!

Stuff the preamble: more Toejam & Earl seems to be in development, harking back to the isometric original rather than Panic On Funkotron. We need this madly, though as a fan of Toejam & Earl III, I hope that Latisha gets to rap again.

Only joking. Never you, Latisha. Never ever you. In other news, Destiny's next DLC pack is getting leaky while Elite Dangerous is getting even more robust. Here are your headlines.

Good morning!

Massive news today as Sony Online Entertainment is bought out by an investment firm, leaving Sony and taking Planetside 2, Everquest Next, H1Z1 and Landmark with them. Though development will continue on schedule, the newly-christened Daybreak Game Studios "can't wait to make Xbox One games" and develop for multiple platforms. Will we see Planetside 2 on Xbox One eventually?

In other news , Hideo Kojima and Jace Hall (the creator of Condemned) would like someone to take a punt at classic games in their franchises, while Ubisoft are starting to reactivate some of those moody Far Cry 4 keys.

The Morning Papers | Master Revengeance

Good morning!

All is still not well at 343 Industries, who have announced that their Massive Matchmaking Content Update That Will Fix Everything And Make Everyone Love Them Again™ has now been delayed and may not receive a beta after all. Here's hoping it eventually works -- I wonder if they're just replacing it or basing it on Halo 5's netcode after its successful beta last month.

In other news, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance 2 may have been teased during the Taipei Games Show. Kojima denies it, but if untrue, someone will be getting in trouble for stealing their font off the internet. Here are your headlines.
