Updated Witcher 3 deals see PS4 price drop again

Slightly cheaper than the deal I posted at 1am today you can now order a PS4 copy for just £22. We're surely looking at a hot contender for Game of the Year here. Find out why.

There's a lot of free DLC to download right now, and the expansions are looking like great value for money as I discussed here: Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes? The game picked up one of our Editor's Choice awards in my review: "While the decidedly average combat and alarming number of technical gremlins are disappointing for a title that's been in development for so long, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is still a must-buy title for genre fans. The Northern Kingdoms is vast and beautiful setting, packed with unique adventures and touching tales that you'll find away from the beats of the main story. A title to truly lose yourself in."

Get The Witcher 3 on PS4 / Xbox One for £21.99

This isn't the cheapest we've seen the console versions of The Witcher 3 fall to, but it's the best price around at the time of writing. It beats the next cheapest offer by around £3. Despite a few issues here and there we called The Witcher 3 "A title to truly lose yourself in" in our review. I know for a fact most of the Dealspwn team are utterly lost in the Gwent mini-game, which only goes to show how impressive the scale of it all is. So, in short, you'll be getting one of the best RPG experiences of 2015 for just £20. Cheers to Buzz for the heads-up!

Cyberpunk 2077 may well be 'bigger' than Witcher 3, but not in the way you think

Cyberpunk 2077 may well be 'bigger' than Witcher 3, but not in the way you think

In a recent interview with MCV, CD Projekt Red visual effects artist Jose Texeira said: “Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before. Far, far bigger.”

The first thought that may pop into the head of any Witcher III: Wild Hunt player is probably going to be 'how?' Closely followed by anyone that had to review it with a cry of 'WHY?!' Witcher III is geographically massive. Made up of multiple maps that expand for miles, often requiring a boat to travel to until you unlock fast travel checkpoints. I've still not seen all locations in the game and I've put close to fifty hours in since release. And CDPR are expanding upon it again with the Hearts of Stone DLC later this month.

Cyberpunk 2077 may well be 'bigger' than Witcher 3, but not in the way you think

Do we even want a game that's bigger? I've had my fill of trying to find that damn quest marker over the vast seas surrounding the Skellige islands' map thank you very much. Except, I get a feeling when Texeira says 'bigger' he might not be talking in terms of square miles on a map, or at least I hope he isn't.

Xbox One console + Witcher III + £30 MS voucher for £280

This is a sweet deal for those of you looking into picking up an Xbox One console. The 500GB Xbox One console bundle includes a download code for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, a 14-day Xbox Live Gold pass and a £30 voucher to be used at this Microsoft online store (not the Xbox Live marketplace).

This is a great time to pick up an Xbox One, with Rise of the Tomb Raider and Halo 5 coming in the next few months. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt should last you until then at least. If you want an excellent racing game to put your new console through its paces, I'd heartily recommend Forza 6.

Thanks to blineboy.

Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes?

Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes?

Season Passes have become the scourge of games in recent years. We're not opposed to additional content for games, far from it. But when the cost of a Season Pass matches that of a full game, our alarm bells start to ring. What's worse, so many of these passes offer a paltry amount of content that simply doesn't justify the price. Consider that Season Passes often stick to their high price long after the main game can be bought for a fraction of the original cost a few months after release and the farce becomes even more laughable.

There are signs of encouragement though. Signs that a balance can be struck for developers and publishers making extra dough and so gamers can come away with good value for money. Right now, we're looking at CD Projekt Red (The Witcher III: Wild Hunt) and Bethesda (Fallout 4) as high-profile candidates to show the rest how it's done.

Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes?

That's a big claim, especially as their Season Pass content hasn't even been released yet. But it's pretty damn easy to see why I'm able to write about yet more season pass updates, but in a positive light rather than a rant about publisher greed. It's all about the price.

Cyberpunk 2077 getting priority over Witcher IV

Chances are you're still enjoying The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, but you may want to take your time with it a bit. After the work on the upcoming expansion DLC is completed, CD Projekt Red are going to give the series a rest to work on other projects. Given the quote below from September's issue of Game Informer Magazine, it seems highly likely they're going to throw their weight behind Cyberpunk 2077, a game originally announced back in 2013.

This pass will grant you access to the upcoming expansion content for the game. The developers have said that the content will offer an additional 30 hours of additional quests with unique items, weapons and enemies. The pass includes the Hearts of Stone expansion, which could see the return of an old character from an early game and should last about ten hours. The Blood and Wine expansion will take part in a newly-designed map for the game and last 20 hours. Compared to the season passes offered for the likes of Batman and Destiny, CD Projekt Red are looking like they'll be providing tremendous value. Not that there isn't plenty to do in the main game already.
