Tripwire: "Call of Duty Has Almost Ruined A Generation of FPS Players"

Tripwire’s president John Gibson is not happy with current crop of shooters. Singleplayer experiences in  the genre are getting better, according to Gibson, but the Red Orchestra developer feels that Call of Duty's stranglehold on the genre has "almost ruined a generation of FPS players" when it comes to multiplayer.

Break Blocks Review | Charity Case

Platform: PC

Developer: Greater Good Games

Publisher: Tripwire Interactive

Have you heard of Greater Good Games? Dayle Flowers, a former Tripwire Interactive employee (a key player behind Killing Floor and Red Orchestra 2) joined forces with illustrator Noah Wood to create a studio who pledge to donate at least 20% of the profits for each sale to Doctors Without Borders - and more when key benchmarks are met for each title. Tripwire are publishing their first effort, Break Blocks, which is a novel mix of colour matching, rhythm games and urban breakdancing.

Block breaking is, as you'd expect, the aim of the game. The action takes place on a circular grid, at the centre of which lies your coloured block. To unlock it, however, you'll need to tap out a series of timed button presses on the beat of a groovy R&B tune, revealing its true colours. You'll then need to rotate both the block and the radial grid and deploy your newfound block to the periphery, with the objecive of making enormous groups of similar shades.

Killing Floor | £2.24 | Steam | PC

If you’ve always wanted to slay mutated hordes in the English capital then Steam’s Midweek Madness deal will scratch that itch. The deal is over £4 better than the next best alternative, but if you want to get hold of all the extra character packs you can get the complete bundle for £3.21, which is still a saving.

Killing Floor is a co-op multiplayer FPS that is essentially one giant horde mode where you and your team fend off against increasing numbers of mutated “specimens” before engaging in a boss fight. As you survive you earn cash that can be spent on improved weapons and perks allow you to customise your style of play in an understated and enjoyable co-op FPS. Thanks to 5867dude @ HUKD!

Red Orchestra 2: Rising Storm Expansion Trailer

Welcome To Iwo Jima

Tripwire Interactive and the Rising Storm modding team have released an explosive new trailer for Red Orchestra 2's Rising Storm expansion pack, which is set to transport players to the World War II's vicious Pacific campaign when it launches later this year. The expansion is set to punch well above its weight and unassuming modding roots if the in-game footage is anything go by, and they've secured veteran composers and promoters on-side. Trailer below, more Rising Storm details here.

Red Orchestra 2 Mod Tools & SDK Released

Tripwire Interactive have announced that the modding and map making tools for gritty WW2 FPS Red Orchestra 2 are now freely available. While the limited functionality preview versions of the SDK have been in the capable hands of select modders for a while, this release now makes the full capabilities available to everyone who owns Red Orchestra 2. Users can make and publish everything from simple mods and mutators, through custom maps and on to full total conversion mods.

Several teams, including the All Star Mod Team, are hard at work on several fan expansions including Rising Storm, In Country Vietnam and Iron Europe. If you're into Red Orchestra 2, be sure to keep an eye on the Modding Forums for the latest updates.

Major Patch & Global Stats Reset Headed To Red Orchestra 2

Tripwire Interactive has announced that a major new patch will be rolling out for their recently-released World War II FPS Red Orchestra 2: Heroes Of Stalingrad. This new update, available in the next few days, will improve the lighting and optimisation, fix sound problems and iron out the kinks surrounding the stats and achievements.

However, there's a sting in the tail. This patch will also reset every player's stats back to zero - which is apparently the only way to level the playing field. To compensate, all players will earn double experience for a limited time and existing Red Orchestra 2 owners will be awarded a special achievement. Apparently posessing the "In B4 Reset" achievement will grant players extra rewards down the line.

I'll moderate up our 6/10 review score if the patch results in a significantly more stable experience. Stay tuned.
