Telltale does Minecraft: Great idea or disaster in waiting?

So, Telltale are doing a Minecraft game. We know very little about it, apart from the fact that it'll be episodic and narrative-driven. Mojang have added that "we’re not intending on creating an 'official' story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail. It will be a cool game."

That could mean anything as far as what this thing will look like.

It doesn't seem like the most obvious fit to begin with, but these are two huge names coming together in an intriguing way next year. Here's what we made of the announcement...

Telltale does Minecraft: Great idea or disaster in waiting?

Wait, what?

I'm all for crossovers, but I have to be honest, this collaboration confused and enraged me at first glance. The idea of Minecraft being adapted into another narrative-driven adventure game seemed completely insane, and doubly galling since I'm slightly worried about Telltale taking on too much (remember, only a few years ago they were seriously slumping due to developing too many mediocre licensed games too quickly) and selfishly would much rather they took on Cowboy Bebop instead. Come on. How great would that be?

But then again... why shouldn't Minecraft be able to support a strong narrative adventure? After all, it already does.

Shaq Fu

We're sorry if you've just sprayed coffee all over your screen upon reading the headline above. We never thought that this day would come, either. And, to be fair, it might all just be circumstantial happenstance.

On the other hand, Shaq Fu -- one of the worst games of all time -- might be about to get a sequel.

Namco Bandai "BTW" Teaser Site Proves Mysterious

What are Namco Bandai up to? A teaser site with "btw" in its URL, and a moody picture of a motorbike accompanied by some rather contemplative words has got us all flustered.

As you can see in  the image above, the text reads "The old days are sketched in his eyes, memories that have passed come and go in his heart.”

What on earth could this be for?

Thanks for the tip, James!

Dead Island: Riptide Wants To Ruin Your Wedding

Deep Silver Will Pay For It, Though

If you're getting married this Spring, Deep Silver would very much like to turn it into a bloodsoaked zombie-themed launch event for Dead Island: Riptide.

At least they'll pay for it and send you on a cracking honeymoon afterwards.

Spin the Bottle Promises "Innocent Fun For Innocent Kids"

KnapNok Games have confused us. First of all, it turns out that they're releasing a party game titled Spin the Bottle for Wii U; secondly, they're promising "innocent fun for innocent kids", which seems a little weird to us considering the name of the game; but that's apparently because, thirdly, apparently the emphasis is on "collaborative micro challenges" rather than wanton making out.

Additionally, the trailer reminds us more of Noby Noby Boy than getting hammered and using the evidence to create a game that's a thinly veiled excuse for a bit of a snog.

According to Polygon (thanks for the tip James!), Spin the Bottle will "require player coordination, trust, body contact, dancing and flexibility". That sounds an awful lot like the pre-requisites for a horizontal tango to us, but that can't be right. This is one for the kids.

*facepalm*

However, it does allow us to post an almost completely gratuitous Peep Show excerpt, so that's fine then. Spin the Bottle is set for release next year.

Mysterious New Ubisoft Images Point Towards POP/Splinter Cell

A triple-threat of new images have surfaced from what looks like an Ubisoft trailer. Although the backdrop of the image above certainly looks somewhat Arabian in terms of locale, we can't help but feel that the shadowy figurehead appears an awful lot like Michael Ironside's favourite gravelly-voiced stealth machine - Sam Fisher. Well, the way he looked in SC: Conviction, anyway.

Hitman Absolution E3 Trailer: Attack Of The Killer Nuns

Hitman Absolution has received its pre-E3 trailer... which features liberal amounts of killer latex-clad nuns packing rocket launchers.

No, really. From what I understand, The Saints are an expert all-female wetworks team employed by the ICA, who were sent to assassinate the silent assassin himself. With mixed results, as you can plainly see.

We'll be getting to grips with Hitman Absolution at E3 next week. For now, enjoy this eminently watchable (and ultraviolent) piece of exploitation.

Ron Gilbert Teases New Artwork For Mystery Double Fine Project

Just what is Ron Gilbert cooking up over at Double Fine? Well, we don't know. Not yet. But Gilbert's gone and dropped another artwork tidbit over on his Grumpy Gamer personal blog. The two characters presented - the monk and the hillbilly - fit together to make a curious tableau. What does this mean? What do we read into this convergence of a wise man and an idiot? What's the hillbilly staring at? Is it food? Can we have some?

Hopefully all questions will be answered at this year's E3.

Meet Juliet's Crazy Sisters In The Latest Lollipop Chainsaw Trailer

Lollipop Chainsaw keeps getting crazier the closer we get to its June 15th release date, and it seems that cheerleading protagonist Juliet's family aren't exactly the stabilising influence a teenager needs. Rather, they're properly insane.

Seriously, certifiably insane.

This latest trailer shows them at their most bizarre, and is arguably worth watching for the line "my sisters and I all wear our vaginas proudly" on top of the new action gameplay footage. Because, when Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture are developing a brawler set in an American high school, anything can happen.

Battleship The Video Game Announced...And It's An FPS

Hasbro, Activision and Double Helix have teamed up to bring Battleship, inspired by that rather famous game where you call out grid co-ordinates and try to sink your opponent's naval fleet, to consoles this spring.

Apparently it will look to combine strategic naval simulation with "boots on the ground" action, to coincide with the upcoming movie of the same name, which will star Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, and, for some bizarre unknown (no pun intended here) reason, Liam Neeson.

Will Wright's HiveMind Will Mine Personal Data To Create Unique Game World

"We Can Predict How You Will Be Feeling"

Will Wright's next game, HiveMind, is set to mine players' personal data to create a game experience that's entirely unique for each person. While it's a potential privacy debacle in the making, Wright believes that players won't mind providing their info voluntarily, comparing the basic method to a dating website's data collation forms. With your data acquired, HiveMind will then predict how you're likely to react and feel; basing the experience dynamically around you. It's a neat idea that's best explained by the legendary game designer behind The Sims and Spore... after the break.
